Today is election day in Wyoming — the primary, not the general. It’s easy to save your voting energy for November, but here in Wyoming that’s often a mistake. Because we’re such a heavily one-party state, many races are effectively decided in the primary, and the general election in November can be little more than a formality. That means today’s ballot carries just as much weight — sometimes more — than the one in the fall.

Wildlife management, public land access, and conservation funding are shaped by the people we choose in races just like these. Polls are open 7am to 7pm, and Wyoming allows same-day registration if you haven’t registered yet — just bring your ID. No matter where you stand, show up and vote for the issues that matter to you and to the future of hunting in Wyoming. by @bowhuntersofwyoming

🏹 What an incredible weekend in the Bighorn Mountains! 🏔️

The 2026 Bighorn Mountain Archery Shoot is officially in the books, and all we can say is thank you!

With over 300 shooters, this year’s event exceeded all of our expectations. It was amazing to see archers and bowhunters of all ages come together for a weekend filled with competition, family, fellowship, and a shared passion for archery.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated, as well as the many volunteers who helped load trailers, set targets, register shooters, keep score, serve food, and tear everything down. Events like this simply don’t happen without dedicated volunteers.

One of our goals this year was to create a true bowhunter’s 3D shoot. We focused on realistic hunting scenarios, ethical shot distances, challenging angles, and tight shooting windows that reflected the types of opportunities many of us encounter in the field. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and we’re thrilled that so many of you enjoyed the experience.

Thank you to Sheridan County Sportsmen’s Association, Bear Lodge, our volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who helped make this event possible.

We’re already looking ahead and are excited about the future of the Bighorn Mountain Archery Shoot. We have plenty of ideas, and we can’t wait to see what this event becomes in the years ahead.

Thank you again for an unforgettable weekend.

We’ll see you on the mountain next year!

🏹 September is Archery Month in Wyoming! 🏹

We received a great update from former Bowhunters of Wyoming President Harvey Dalton:

Governor Gordon will be signing a proclamation officially declaring September as Archery Month in Wyoming!

📅 August 20
⏰ 10:30–11:15 AM
📍 Wyoming State Capitol – Cheyenne

Harvey and Terry will be there for the signing, and we’d love to see a strong showing from Wyoming’s archery and bowhunting community—especially those of you in the Cheyenne area.

If you can make it, come down and help represent archery and bowhunting in Wyoming!

Thanks to Harvey for spreading the word, and we hope to see a great crowd there! 🏹

Before we start sharing all the awesome photos and videos from this year’s Bighorn Mountain Archery Shoot, we want to take a moment to recognize a few of the people who made it all possible.

First up is Mike Barrett.

At just a little over retirement age, Mike was once again up on the mountain for multiple days before the shoot, cutting open trails, laying out and flagging the courses, hauling 3D targets into the woods, and then helping tear everything back down after the event.

Mike has been doing this for the Bighorn Mountain Shoot for decades, and his dedication has helped keep this event alive for generations of archers. Most people never see the countless hours of work that happen before the first arrow is ever shot, but without volunteers like Mike, this event simply wouldn’t happen.

Mike, on behalf of everyone who attended this year’s shoot, thank you for your years of hard work, dedication, and commitment to Wyoming’s bowhunting community. We truly appreciate everything you do. If you see Mike around please tell him thank you!

Please join us in giving Mike Barrett a well-deserved THANK YOU! 👏🏹 by @bowhuntersofwyoming

💧🏹 What does wildlife conservation look like?

Sometimes it’s meetings, planning, permits, and fundraising.

Sometimes it’s dirt work, sweat, heavy equipment, hard labor, and a group of volunteers willing to spend their time making a lasting difference for Wyoming wildlife.

This time-lapse shows the installation of one of the first guzzlers in the Bowhunters of Wyoming Guzzler Project. These water developments will provide a reliable water source for wildlife and are the result of a tremendous partnership between Bowhunters of Wyoming, Wyoming Sportsman’s Group, Wyoming Wildlife Federation, the Bureau of Land Management, Devon Energy, the Conservation Corps crew, and a dedicated group of volunteers.

The best part? We’re not done yet.

These were only the first two of six planned guzzlers, and we are hoping to install one more later this year. We’ll need plenty of help to make it happen. The Conservation Corps crew provided much of the manpower for these first projects, so for future installations we’ll be relying heavily on volunteers.

If you’d like to get involved in a hands-on conservation project that will benefit Wyoming wildlife for years to come, stay tuned. We’ll announce the next installation date as soon as it is finalized.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these first projects a success!

💧🏹 A Great Week for Conservation in Wyoming! 🏹💧

Over the last two days, Bowhunters of Wyoming and our partners successfully installed the first two guzzlers as part of our ongoing Guzzler Project in Campbell and Johnson Counties.

These projects would not have been possible without the hard work and support of many dedicated volunteers and organizations. A huge thank you goes out to:

✅ Wyoming Sportsman’s Group
✅ Wyoming Wildlife Federation
✅ Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
✅ Devon Energy and the Conservation Corps crew they provided
✅ All of the volunteers who spent their time helping install liners, assemble tanks, build infrastructure, and improve wildlife habitat.

Projects like these are a reminder of what can be accomplished when conservation organizations, agencies, industry partners, and volunteers work together toward a common goal.

These guzzlers will provide a reliable water source for wildlife and represent a long-term investment in Wyoming’s habitat and wildlife resources.

Thank you to everyone who helped turn this project from an idea into reality. We look forward to continuing this effort and completing additional guzzler projects in the future.
