We are Laura Goldhamer and Alex Ammons, and after performing as a duo for for many years, we would like to reintroduce ourselves as Bathtub Mary!

Bathtub Mary is reference to outdoor shrines constructed by burying an old bathtub vertically in the ground, and placing a statue of Mary/Guadalupe/Madonna in the center. We’re not church-going gays exactly, but we fuck with the sacred, queerness as holy, and playing music as a communion with each other, the divine, and all yall that we play for.

Alex Ammons and Laura Goldhamer of Bathtub Mary join Indra Raj in KGNU’s new studios for a live session featuring songs by Ammons, including “The Thread,” “The Canticle of Consent,” and “Crone.” The two musicians also talk about their musical journeys and their connections to Colorado’s vibrant music community.

Ammons shares the story behind the Honey House Concert Series, an intimate backyard concert series bringing local musicians and audiences together in Denver. They also discuss Goldhamer’s work as a clawhammer banjo player and the Hive Choir, a community singing project.

Sitting through a couple of recent deaths has had me thinking about how I’d like to spend my last days, if I’m lucky enough to have a say in it. this little circle-song emerged as a how-to for my friends and family, feels a little vulnerable to share but Ive really enjoyed seeing others’ faces and proof of life on here and this is just the truth of the realm I’ve been inhabiting lately. This is a song about the ferocious little monster in me who think the answer to every sorrow and existential question is “more!!!” Maybe you’ve got one of those guys too. I’m starting to think that maybe he’s got the wrong idea….

The jalaBlu community gathered for a sacred #wintersolstice❄️ with @boyhowdyalex for an evening of story, song, laughter, tears, and the rawness of being human.

A sacred treasure that I will keep close to my heart was an offering from @boyhowdyalex (not spoken exactly with these words but…) . To honor all completions in life as an act of love. Most importantly at times the hardest ones and when you leave your precious body in physical form it is also an act of love.

So grateful and full with the blessings of connection. Happy Solstice everyone.

Done in Love has been out for two months! Thank you for your generous attention to the songs, and for sharing how they have been accompanying you in your life. It is so special and cool to know that you have a relationship with this music which I have had a relationship with for so long now.

These photos were from the Ivy Ballroom earlier this month opening for @aylanereo - It was a completely surreal experience to play in this venue I have seen so many incredible artists perform over the years. 🤯

There are a couple of shows coming up if you wanna come out before the end of the year! Thank you for the opportunities to continue to play this music for you. Gathering in-person these days is where I most often remember the power of care, mutual aid, and art and beauty as acts of resistance.
