i tried to add Candy by Chromeo as background audio for this dump but instagram wouldn’t let me include the audio for the videos in this dump and also Candy by Chromeo and i think that’s dumb so if you could play Candy by Chromeo on your phone or computer while scrolling through this dump you would be viewing this dump in it’s originally intended format which is good, i think! by @bradvarian

around 2014 or so, i was once again standing in line to see improv outside of the UCB Theater on Franklin Ave. a few spots ahead of me, i heard a stranger mention the D’Angelo tune Spanish Joint. imbued with the confidence of youth, i stepped toward them and asked; “y’all talkin’ bout D’Angelo?”

those two gentlemen are Matty Margallo and Arik Cohen. we’ve been friends ever since. we went to Arik’s bachelor party last year. shot dice and danced to a Rage Against The Machine cover band until three in the morning. have thoroughly enjoyed each others’ company for a decade plus.

D’Angelo is an absolutely singular genius of his own accord. but so much of his legacy, to me, is rooted in that same camaraderie. he introduced so many to Pino Palladino, Questlove, Roy Hargrove, Charlie Hunter, Angie Stone, James Poyser, Spanky Alford, Chris Dave, Isaiah Sharkey, and a million others.

they’ll miss him greatly. as will myself and many others. but good god am i grateful he brought so many of us just a little bit tighter. by @bradvarian

quite simply, overwhelmed by the gratitude i feel for this man’s life.

in times of undeniable loneliness, Brian Wilson’s music has been the company i craved. the thought and care so evident in each note and every silence. it’s great conversation. the kind where you’re seen beyond the pretense of everyday presentation. rich, deep, and soul filling.

at some point today i’ll be listening to Pet Sounds and it’ll be time for the bridge of God Only Knows. and each voice that enters will carry the weight of decades of friendship. the same way they always have and always will. i’ll smile, i’ll cry, and i’ll be lucky to feel. by @bradvarian
