Pals, my author copies of Fetch arrived through the post on Friday. Time for an update/obligatorily bleary-eyed selfie.

I’m delighted by how bonnie the book looks and feels. It is a beautiful object. And Other Stories have shown it such care and attention. Their house style suits poetry very well indeed, I think you’ll agree. Huge thanks to them, and also to Niall Campbell, Alan Gillis and Paul Farley for their testimonials...

Why Fetch? The Borges quote that begins the book tells you most of what you need to know about the title. It’s also a reference to Mean Girls, but you already knew that, didn't you?

I think this book of poems is the best thing I’ve written. I’d also wager that if you read it you’ll agree. But (he says, strategically lowering the bar of readerly expectation) if you’ve enjoyed Fower Pessoas or any of my other books, fairly safe bet to say you’ll probably enjoy this one too. The book comes out in early September but is now available to preorder through the And Other Stories website: see the link in my bio.

Excited, too, to be launching the book in person. This is happening in various places, but beginning closer to home: my first Fetch gig will be at the Edinburgh Book Festival, where I’ll appear alongside exemplary humans Ryan Van Winkle, and Ellen Renton. Very excited for that one: tickets on sale now, so get em while they’re still available (link in usual place). I’ll also be launching the book at two Toppingses in the same week, St Andrews (8th September) and Edinburgh (10th). Stoked to be joined for the Edinburgh gig by fellow Morgan 2020 shortlistee Michael Grieve (keep watch out over the night skies for his Asterism, out next year) and also by my editor the ace poet Jacob Polley. Should be decent, so get your tickets early!

More Fetch news (including other launches) anon. Stay tuned. C x by @brambrella

Colín Bramwell (@brambrella) reads the poem ‘Belly’ from his debut collection FETCH.

In Celtic folklore a fetch is a shadowy doppelgänger that appears from the Otherworld, portending the beholder’s fate. Your fetch ‘fetches’ you to the afterlife, willingly or otherwise. Bramwell’s poetry uses the fetch as a model to explore a number of overlapping binaries – between the reader and the poem, most of all. Fetch also meditates on the differences between music and speech, the sacred and the profane, the written and the real, humanity and nature, Scots and English. Incorporating multitudes of modes, forms, registers and subjects, Bramwell converses with the Anglo-Celtic lyric tradition in our own time and in his own distinctively amiable fashion. In other words, this poet takes poetry seriously – but not too seriously.

FETCH is a tour-de-force debut from one of Britain’s most exciting new poets, in which reverence and irreverence, religion and faithlessness, the living and the dead, nearly rhyme.

Hello friends new and old! Fetch is now officially published and available to purchase from UK bookshops. I've been buzzing round Edinburgh signing copies at @typewronger, @lighthousebks and @argonautbooks, who have put me next to Borges. If that's an accident, it's a happy one. Also, thanks to Topping & Co in St Andrews for having me read on Tuesday.

I've also had some more positive notices, from the Literary Hub, who have selected the book as one of their picks for this season, and from The Skinny, who were kind enough to send Lucy Donoghue to interview me about all things Fetch for what turns out to be their final issue. I hope not to have this effect on any further magazines. (Seriously now, a huge loss for Scotland's media: we'll miss them greatly here.)

Tickets still available for the big Edinburgh launch tonight, at Topping & Co. The gig will be taking place within the bookshop itself and not on the Royal Terrace, or indeed any other kind of terrace. See you there.

Today we publish FETCH the debut collection from Colin Bramwell, the first UK-based poet to join our growing poetry list.

Praised by Suzi Feay in the Financial Times as ‘wonderfully confident’ and ‘alert to the faint absurdity of writing poems’ and by Oluwaseun Olayiwola in the Guardian as a ‘solemnly tender, comically worldly, literarily devout’ work, FETCH considers the relationship between music and speech, the sacred and the profane, the written and the real, humanity and nature, Scots and English.

Bramwell came to national attention with FOWER PESSOAS, his award-winning translation of Fernando Pessoa’s poetry into Scots. His eagerly anticipated debut FETCH was edited by acclaimed British poet Jacob Polley and our very own Stefan Tobler.

FETCH is now available at your local bookshop and from online retailers.

We're still pre release for Fetch – it's officially out tomorrow! But last week was fun. I was hosted by Bristol's own Heron Books for a reading on Wednesday, an enormously pleasant affair. Thanks to Lizzie and Harry for having me, and to the audience for their intelligent questions.

The book was also in The Guardian poetry round-up on Saturday, reviewed by Oluwaseun Olayiwola, who says Fetch is 'solemnly worldly, comically tender, literarily devout. Bramwell’s poetics convey an uncanny sense of wisdom, patience and, eventually, peace.' Many thanks to Seun for his beautifully written review: for more beautiful writing from him, read his ace book of poems Strange Beach, published by Fitzcarraldo not so many moons ago.

Next Tuesday is publication day (8th), and we've two Scottish launches and one online reading this week too. Tonight I'll be reading online for the Poetry Book Society at 7pm. On the 8th itself I'll be at Topping and Co in St Andrews; and on the 10th we'll be doing the big launch with Edinburgh Topping, at the Voco Royal Terrace on London Road. Check the usual place for tickets, and see you all there! by @brambrella

And here's nature providing Edinburgh with her own riff on the fetch. But I bet everyone performing at the festival this year felt like that one was just for them.

It's been a fun few days. Had a great time reading with Ryan Van Winkle at the Book Festival. Thanks to Ellen Renton for conducting the affair with customary grace and wit, and to the Book Festival for having and holding us. Look how stoked Ryan and I are in that Polaroid. Great stuff, truly.

We've also had our first review in, from the Financial Times, who say I am both bold and Scottish. They're not wrong! Suzi Feay says the book is 'a wonderfully confident debut, alert to the faint absurdity of writing poems ... But Bramwell ranges well beyond the comic. Scottish dialect poems have a weight and a purity.' Thanks to Suzi for that, delighted she's enjoyed it.

A few pre-publication gigs. Bristolians: I have never been to your fair city before, and shall be with you for one night only on the 2nd of September, reading at Heron Books. Pumped for that. Also, Gubsmacked are doing our flyting at the Book Festival on Monday 25th. This will be the funnest poetry gig of the year in Scotland: get your tickets for that soon, it will likely sell out.

Publication day is on the 8th of September. You can still preorder the book - I also have copies now! On that day I'll be reading from the book at Toppings in St Andrews. And then on the 10th we have The Big One at Toppings in Edinburgh. I'll be reading with two brilliant poets: Jacob Polley, who edited Fetch, and Michael Grieve. All hosted by top chap Zain Rishi. Links for all this in the old bye-oh... by @brambrella
