Ever wonder what’s actually happening when we say “ICSI”? 👀

ICSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection; it’s one of the most incredible techniques in modern fertility treatment. During this process, an embryologist selects a single healthy sperm and injects it directly into the center of an egg using a microscopic glass needle.

Originally, ICSI was used mostly for cases of severe male factor infertility (low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal morphology). But now? It’s become standard in most IVF labs because it helps reduce fertilization failure and gives embryos the best possible start.

The next day, we check to see if fertilization occurred, and what we’re looking for are two pronuclei (2PN). Each pronucleus represents half of the genetic material-one from the egg and one from the sperm.
When we see 2PN, it means the egg has fertilized normally and is now on its way to becoming an embryo. 🌱

It’s an incredible reminder that behind every embryo transfer, every positive test, and every growing bump, there’s a moment like this happening in the lab. 💫

Last night, we got to celebrate my brother Monte as he received the Pueblo Police Department’s Life Saving Award. 💙

On March 18, 2025, Monte was involved in an incredibly dangerous situation that most of us could never imagine being in. While shots were still being fired, he ran toward the danger to help save the life of a fellow officer.

I don’t think words can fully describe how proud I am of him. Knowing what he went through that night and seeing him recognized for his bravery, selflessness, and courage was incredibly emotional.

Being a police officer means making sacrifices that most people will never see or understand. As his sister, I’m just so grateful he made it home that night, and so proud of the man he is.

Monte, you’ll always be my brother first, but getting to see the hero that you are to so many others is something really special. We love you and couldn’t be prouder. 💙👮🏻‍♂️🚔 by @brandiscourtney

Her words to those still on the journey is: "I wish I had been better prepared for how isolating infertility can feel. I also wish I hadn't let the uncertainty of each cycle keep me from being present with the people I love. I used to tell friends I couldn't make plans because I didn't know what my IVF cycle would look like. Eventually, I learned to say "I'll be there unless I'm in the middle of a cycle" — and that small shift made a big difference. People became more understanding, and I stopped missing out as much.

Having a support system really does help, even when it feels like no one around you can truly relate. Keep surrounding yourself with love and hope. During my two-week wait especially, I did everything I could to stay relaxed and feel happy — easier said than done, I know. But I colored, spent time with friends and family, cooked good food, did puzzles, watched movies, and bought myself a few new things. Whatever helped me feel a little better in the moment was worth it. And don't be afraid to make those "faith purchases" — buying a baby toy or outfit doesn't jinx anything. Think of it as a manifestation!"
