After training for a little over 2 years I had my first amateur fight at the ripe age of 38. It was less than a year ago that I started entertaining the idea of one day stepping into the ring…

This is your sign to stop waiting, stop telling yourself you’re too old, and take the leap.

You don’t have to be fearless. You just have to be willing to start. by @brandontay

A blur of cobblestone streets, cathedral bells, late-night gelato, and the kind of moments that make you wish time would slow down.

Years from now, I know they won’t remember every train ride or bowl of pasta, but I hope they’ll remember how it felt to explore the world together. Collecting memories. by @brandontay

Is this our version of girl math? Deplete the body, calm the mind. Boy math.

Tryout season is hard.
Hard for the players chasing dreams, hard for the parents carrying the weight of every decision, and hard for the teams building something they believe in. ⚽️

But at some point, every athlete deserves the space to choose their own path.
And sometimes that choice isn’t about rejecting someone else — it’s about choosing yourself.

Choosing growth.
Choosing joy again.
Choosing the environment that feels right for your heart, your confidence, your future.

In youth soccer, emotions run deep because everyone cares so much. But a player making a different choice is not betrayal — it’s part of growing up.

We all need a little more grace for one another.
These kids are living this life for the first time.
Truthfully… so are we. 🤍 by @brandontay

But it’s also the team. Thankful that they put me through the wringer.

At 37, I’ve finally visited my mother’s homeland, a year older than she was when she left this world. Every step here feels like a quiet conversation with her spirit. I feel her in every smile, every temple, even in the warmth of the sun. I’m beyond grateful. by @brandontay

Liam usually has a problem with getting too into his own head with wrestling but he’s learning to trust his training, to trust his coaches, and to trust himself. He showed that today. MDWA Freestyle Campeón 💪🏼 by @brandontay

My favorite thing about you is your love for adventure and how much you’ve instilled that in our boys. I look forward to a lifetime of adventure with you; whether that’s experiencing various parts of the world, or losing ourselves in some tv show on the couch, I cherish it all. I love you. #12 by @brandontay

The goal hasn’t necessarily been to get promoted… I really just come in here and try to leave a little better than I was when I walked in. Like the homie @grind4glory101 always says, “1% better, everyday.”

Shout out to the squad and coaches here at @newcreationwrestlingnbjj @richg_jiujitsu_ @yaserto @mr_banks_25 Coach Dom and everyone that shows up looking for blood on Sundays. Thank you.

So proud of this kid. After his huge upset at his last Jiu Jitsu tournament, he stepped onto the mat with a chip on his shoulder this morning. Unfortunately he came up short in the finals, but still walked away with some hardware 🥈
