Today on Radio Alhara - @nicasabet takeover with an hour of music from Iran. 9pm London / 11pm Bethlehem / 11:30pm Isfahan

Nica says - this is a small collection of Iranian songs that laid the foundation for my love of music — mostly drawn from the rich tradition of Persian classical and folk music.

I used to listen to these songs in the car with my dad on late-night drives around Isfahan. I found the music difficult to listen to at first as a child, but every now and then he would explain a line of poetry or tell me what a song was about, its structure, style, and lyrics. Now these songs bring back images of the city at night: empty streets, passing lights, and nothing to do but listen and gaze.

This is a selection of tasnifs, vocal pieces, and instrumentals that I wanted to put together as one continuous listen. They have some of my favourite and most elaborate song intros. The songs don't always feel like they're trying to arrive somewhere; they linger, circle back, and let the feeling deepen.

Tonight on Radio alHara

This weekend marks the return of Reveil, a collective production by streamers at listening points around the earth, coordinated by @sound_camp and collaborators. Starting on the morning of Saturday 2 May 2026 in South London near the Greenwich Meridian, the broadcast will pick up feeds one by one, tracking the sunrise west from microphone to microphone, following the wave of intensified sound that loops the earth every 24 hours at first light.

Pitch is a listening space designed by @publicworks_uk and Michael Speers, assembled yearly for Reveil. Come to Stave Hill this weekend to listen together.

I’m heading out to Earthworks festival straight after pitching Pitch, and looking forward to some live ambient experimentation on Sunday morning with @catherineaisha and @coohulin (second slide).
