It’s World Breathing Day 🌍

Organised by @ibf_breathwork , this year’s theme is “time to heal” and it couldn’t be more needed. I’ve been in this space for six years now (time flies), and it’s become really clear to me that we ALL have stuff that needs to be healed. And I’ve also been witness time and again to the healing power of conscious breathing for mind, body and soul. When we breathe with intent, we allow our breath to work on whatever’s needed (when often our conscious self has no idea what this is!), often (not always) in a quiet, gentle, understated way.

Until one day, we realise things have shifted; we feel altered, perhaps more comfortable physically, more accepting of ourselves and others, more joyful, lighter. Maybe not all at once, it can be (not always) a gradual awakening, and it’s one I don’t think ever need stop.

I’m going to be sharing some healing Breathwork online tonight and this time I thought I’d trial this as an IG live rather than on Zoom. Which means you can join me, if you’d like to, for a short practice at 8pm.

I’ve posted some words here from the IBF website. They describe the breath as “local medicine” which I love. And they remind us that healing with the breath is inclusive, it’s free and available to us all. So why not give it a go? by @breath4good

REBIRTHING BREATHWORK…I don’t talk nearly enough on here about Breathwork so I thought it was high time to explain a little more about my therapeutic Breathwork. Eight years ago, I embarked on a whole new life chapter with a focus on holistic therapies, and it all began with my training in rebirthing Breathwork. It was a process that took three years, and a learning that never ceases. I now offer other Breathwork modalities too, but rebirthing is where I find my own home with my breath.

In a rebirthing session, we breathe using a gentle and soft circular breath, helping the body relax and come to a state of awareness in which we can start to notice emotions, beliefs, experiences and patterns.

Without forcing or striving, we meet whatever arises with curiosity, presence and compassion.

Over our lifetimes, we’ve learned how to hold stress and protect ourselves. As we meet our breath, it leads us to the self beyond these patterns, over time allowing them to gently begin to dissolve.

Our breath is energy, and we use it to support the integration of past experience, emerging with a renewed sense of self connection.

As my event work starts to slow down this autumn, I’ve got openings to take on a few more 1:1 Breathwork clients. If you think this might be for you, drop me a message and we can arrange a chat or book you in.

Your self awaits 🤍 taken in The Old Rectory Quinton by @breath4good

I’ve been coming up for air this week after a super busy spell of garden hosting; I crammed so much in that there was no time to actually share any of it! So Stretch & Swim with Anna, Rachel’s Yin & Swim, Sue’s Dolly yoga, Jo’s new moon restorative class and our end of term harvest sound bath with Jojo passed by without nearly enough fanfare. But reflecting on these events now, what strikes me is what a wonderful clutch (is that the collective noun I’m reaching for?!) of well-being practitioners I’m lucky enough to have in my orbit, as friends and collaborators ❤️

Last week concluded with a whole day retreat that I co-hosted with fabulous teacher (and pal!) @wendyloughlan and thanks to Wendy (and @annakrivenko_ps , who helped us too), I have a crop of lovely images that capture the essence of the day to share with you. Creative teachings, high vibration foods (a good chunk of it grown in the garden!), specially blended massage oils, seasonal herbal teas on tap…and always the backdrop of the garden, reminding us of the turning of the year and the lessons we can take from that, all contributed to making the retreat day a golden experience.

Thanks to all of you who’ve joined us over the past weeks. It’s been a joy 💛

And thanks for the beautiful autumn flowers (last slide) @jo_jo_sounds ! Just perfect x taken in The Old Rectory Quinton by @breath4good

🕊️ Musings On Peace 🕊️ (of the inner kind. And also purpose)

Here I am in my garden, standing beneath our Bhutanese prayer flags, blessed for us by a monk-astrologer during our epic trip there earlier in the year, looking, I think, at my most zen!

I often get told that I seem very calm and serene. I think on some level (not all levels!) I really am, most of the time anyway. I attribute that to an unshakable, if not conventional, faith, something that’s always been there for me but that the work of the past almost decade since I stumbled into the world of Breathwork has really solidified.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking this summer on purpose, why I do what I do and whether my path is the right one - it’s why I’ve been so scant with my posts 🫣. I’ve been trying to collate my thoughts into a mission statement (thanks @hayley__southwood for the prompt to do so 🥰) and I think it’s something along these lines; creating environments where people can find sanctuary; a sense of connection, peace and acceptance.

A sanctuary can be a relationship. It can be a retreat. A garden (my garden!). It might be an event, or a therapy session, or a class or workshop. It could even be found in listening to a podcast (Journey through the Seasons! - the new series begins in September!)

I’ve been reflecting that it’s the zen/ inner peace that makes possible this work that I do. And when I wobble, as I do sometimes (this evening!), I have some great tools to find my way back to balance.

Over the next little while, I’ll be sharing some more about those tools - and sanctuary spaces - on here. Please stick around x

Photos from my lovely shoot with @mrs_madina_photography - I’ll be sharing more of those too ☺️ taken in The Old Rectory Quinton by @breath4good

A long overdue post on our summer solstice celebration and a few words on a love affair….

Summer solstice is always bit of an apex event for me, and our biggest annual fundraiser for @womankindworldwide (a synchronicity I love because it’s reflective of nature’s big hurrah as well). And for the past two years, I’ve been joined for the event by @life_with_thermomix_beatriz , which, with a lawn full to cater for, has been a massive blessing.

Thermomix (and Beatriz) came into my life last year, and as anyone who’s been in my orbit for the past 14 months will be able to testify, it’s a love affair into which I fell hard. Baking a gazillion cakes a year, preparing retreat lunches, brunches and soups, making jams and chutneys to contribute to our fundraising and blending my breathing balms, it’s honestly been a godsend. What’s made it even better is that I was introduced to Thermomix by Beatriz, and she’s become a firm fixture in my life, helping with events, hosting and generally being marvellous. Cooking alongside her is genuinely a joy 🤩

At the solstice, we prepared brownies and made a selection of cool mocktails for post stretch and swim rehydration - fresh lemon and limeade, hibiscus iced tea (the very pretty drink you can see B pouring in the attached clip) and an elderflower fizz - yum 😋

Here’s to lots more co-cooking @life_with_thermomix_beatriz 🎉🥳🙌🏻 taken in The Old Rectory Quinton by @breath4good

🌸 Bloom Sound Bath 🌸

Jojo and I have hosted our Bloom sound bath in May for the past 4 years. But never on a night as balmy as this week’s. It meant we could bolt on a pre sound bath dip for those that fancied it, spots in the shade on the lawn won out to those in the sun and we had a bumper turnout (which is amazing for our fundraising for @womankindworldwide 🤍)

Some days feel blessed. And this was one x

Thank you @jo_jo_sounds ; you are unsurpassble! taken in The Old Rectory Quinton by @breath4good

🧘🏻‍♀️ Breathwork for a heatwave 🥵

🧘🏻‍♀️ Sitali Pranyama - for instant cooling

🧘🏻‍♀️ In breaths through a curled tongue (if that’s available for you - keep your tongue flat if not and inhale across its surface)

🧘🏻‍♀️ Seal the lips, exhale slow and steady through the nose 👃🏻

🧘🏻‍♀️ Maintain a steady rhythm for 3 minutes if you have it, but one minute will be enough to feel an impact

🧘🏻‍♀️ Our breath, our most local medicine, always there for us 🤍 taken in The Old Rectory Quinton by @breath4good

YogaSwim4Good 🧘🏻‍♀️ 🌱🌿🏊🏻‍♀️

Hosting outdoor events, which is what I do from April- September, is an act of faith (and the goodwill of attendees 🥰). Today was not ideal (down jacket in May!), but we found a workaround in the form of village hall yoga and then made our way to the willow tree for some outdoor meditation. Not perfect and yet somehow perfect…

Then there was swimming (one brave soul took the diving board option) and cake and tea and chat to round off the morning.

@findpoetryinplaces run these morning monthly over the summer and there are plenty still to look forward to. We’re continuing to raise money for @womankindworldwide Afghanistan projects (that’s the “4Good” bit in the event title) - and to be grateful that we all have the privilege to gather and share (and sing and read books and be educated….) 🤍 by @breath4good

Thank you 40s. The best decade yet 🥰

Here are 20 highlights, which I think capture something of the essence of the past 10 years - though it was so hard to decide what made the cut - I might have to share a few from the editing suite on my stories!

What comes next? I have lots of plans (of course I do), so please stick around.

Thank you, everyone, for being here. I mean those words on the first image, I’m grateful every day x by @breath4good

Stretch & Swim 🏊🏻‍♀️ 🧘🏻‍♀️

Definitely the best start to the weekend 🫶🏻

@annakrivenko_ps and I hosted our last winter session of Stretch & Swim on Saturday, stretching our bodies springwards before a pond dip and piling into the kitchen for breakfast and a lovely catch up. I missed the Feb event and it was SO good to be back!

March marks a turning point; as of April our stretch sessions move outdoors which means we have space for many more to join us! Bookings for Stretch & Swim are open now all the way through to September x taken in The Old Rectory Quinton by @breath4good

🌱Life Begins🌱

On the eve of Imbolc, we returned to Walberswick 🤍 for this year’s Life Begins retreat.

A few days have passed since then, and the themes of rebirth and new beginnings remain at the processing stage - a persistent presence even as daily life resumes.

Meanwhile, here’s a series of stills from the retreat, posted with love and gratitude for all involved in any way - and most especially to @jo_jo_sounds for her gorgeous sound therapy and for so much more. And to @nahansell for being the best retreat chef ever and opening her home and heart to us all 🤍

Would you like to be at the next one? Comment below if so and I can make sure you hear all about it x
