Japanese Cedar wrapped retail counter with Shou Sugi Ban Oak top with leather stitching detail detail.
I usually build these pieces in the shop, and it’s installed like a piece of furniture in a space.
The contractor framed it in on site, unaware one was being built.
No biggie…sometimes ya gotta pivot.
So this ended up being built onsite, which is rare for me to load tools and leave my shop.
Ya do what ya gotta do and you make it work.

5’ and some change.
Siberian Elm with Shou Sugi Ban finish on the bark side.
Made for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

20’ of leather on an 18” top.
I’m not sure people grasp what it takes to stitch that, and how could you if you’ve never done it.
It’s slow and tedious, but the gratification that comes when you tie it off…unexplainable.
Have a great weekend and good luck to all running in the Chicago marathon. Mad respect to the runners. The only time I run is crossing the street against the light.

A couple pieces for @match_a_chicago for their new store opening this weekend for the Chicago Marathon at 73 E. Jackson.
They came here from Thailand with a dream, one by one family and friends made the journey to join them.
I love the story, and I’m grateful to add a few pieces.
The big one is for under the front counter. I make things to be modular so they can be moved. When something is 100% built in, it’s there forever.
Things happen, landlords jack up rents, or you outgrow a space, and my pieces you can take with you so you’re not spending money twice.
Second piece is a little 3’ hand carved and stitched bench so you can sit and sip your tea.
Check em’ out this weekend.

Hand Carved Walnut.
The little subtle accents are what separates a piece from basic to something special.
The human hand is now a commodity and I got 2

Three the Hard Way.
Monday announced that it’s gonna be a helluva week.
S’ok though. In a couple weeks I got a camping trip I’ve been looking forward to in a couple weeks, so whatever happens between now and then…let it happen.
Happy Monday ya’ll, if luck and math are correct, I only have about 9000 Mondays left.

Shipping out a pair of benches.
It actually takes me the same amount of time to pack these as it does to make them. You have to pack them to withstand being thrown off a truck, pierced with a fork lift, and raped by a gorilla (UPS may have terminated the elusive rape gorilla, but they filled the position with something else)
And don’t ask how I field test to packages to withstand a raping gorilla, but my successful delivery record is on point.
My apologies…it’s been a long week.
The “unfollow” button is in the upper right…it’s cool…I understand

Walnut with a Chaotic grain.
If you’re cursed with anxiety…this probably isn’t a good choice for your coffee table.

Needed a little color after so much black.
Not only color, sometimes you just need to get loose.
A lot of projects with purpose lately and sometimes just playing around is therapeutic.
This therapy piece is on my Etsy.

Shou Sugi Ban Tea Tray.
These go pretty quick.
I’m not sure if people are actually using them for tea. I know one lady used one for a plant sand, another guy who does Bonsai Trees ordered a few.
All I know is that they’re fun to make.

I don’t mind working on Saturday.
Get a few Etsy orders out ahead of schedule, create a smooth runway for the coming week, catch a sunrise….life is what you make it.
Perspective will save your ass every time.

Picked up this Elm Slab from my Buddy John.
I chose it for just having a funky shape, but still being “Earthy”
I didn’t need to work it much because the tree itself did most of the work.
That’s the “push/pull”.
It takes a lot of years to know when a piece needs to be worked, nudged or left alone.
