You asked, “Bree, would you give the ranger a statement?”

My answer is no. I get the instinct to explain yourself. You think, “If I just tell them what happened, they’ll understand.” But those same words can be read back to you in court. From my own experience, I’d get legal advice first and save my defence for court.

What would you like me to answer next? Leave your question in the comments.

🦁 IVAN ASEN | BULGARIA’S LIONS, PART 2

The protests helped secure permission for Terez and Masoud to leave Bulgaria. But adult lion Ivan Asen was told no.

There was still so much work to do. I returned to Australia for around a month while FOUR PAWS’ Yavor Gechev continued pushing for approval.

Ivan Asen was sick and weak. Yavor finally convinced the government that keeping this lion was no symbol of national pride. Eventually, they agreed to let him go.

Then came the forecast: a serious snowstorm was heading straight for the scheduled transport.

There’s never a dull day moving wild animals across international borders.

For me, this is the most emotional story of season one. Watching Ivan Asen’s transformation, and seeing what Yavor’s dedication made possible, was incredible. This lion’s story has stayed with me ever since.

Catch up on Part 1 for the story of Terez and Masoud.

My favourite thing to do as a single mum with a seven-year-old boy? Rent a beachfront daybed in the south of France. He burns off his energy while I watch him, with margaritas and salade niçoise delivered to my sunlounger. 🍸☀️

He’s grown up by the ocean in Australia and knows how to swim. I’m watching closely, there are lifeguards on duty, and we feel really safe. He gets his beach time, I get to relax, and we both go home and sleep beautifully.

Cannes, mid-October 2026, around 5 pm. This weather! Honestly, does it get any better?

And then my family asks,”how’d it go? Was it worth it? Have you done a deal yet? Sounds like a scam.” 😂😂😭 by @breebillington

🦁 BULGARIA’S LION CUBS: THE FIGHT FOR A HOME | PART 1

Two lion cubs in a zoo in Razgrad. A chance of a new home in the Netherlands. And a political battle standing in their way.

This was my favourite story to shoot and the episode that made me realise we had a TV show.

It became clear that crossing international borders with exotic animals means dealing with government authorities. Behind the journey are systems like TRACES and officials who can approve, refuse, delay or speed up the paperwork. Those decisions can determine an animal’s future.

For Terez and Masoud, time mattered. These cubs were being raised by a human, growing quickly and needed to reach a specialist facility equipped to care for them as adult lions.

We were on standby in Sofia as their future became a national media story. Outside government house, protesters chanted “MAFIA! MAFIA!” Then FOUR PAWS’ Yavor Gechev delivered my favourite line of the shoot:

“We might not have a lion transport, but we might see the downfall of the Bulgarian government.”

That’s when, as a filmmaker, you stay put.

The uncertainty and getting to know the people at FOUR PAWS made this unforgettable. Once the cubs were finally settled in the Netherlands, I also got to know Marina their devoted human “mum”. Amid all the politics and media attention, her focus was always the cubs.

We didn’t know whether we’d get to film them reaching their forever home. We were on standby for two weeks in Bulgaria not knowing if we were going to come home with an episode with a happy ending.

Ragnar was my first baby. Seven years after Ari arrived, my two boys can finally match each other’s energy and run around like this. I’ve been waiting for this 🥹🐾

A few months off the beach with a toe injury had Ragsie moping around like a grumpy old man. So good to see the spring back in his step, keeping up with his little brother. Stayin’ alive and loving it 😂🌊

A cancelled meeting, a swim and a skate park. Sometimes that’s what working mum life looks like. ☀️

I got the weather wrong. We were both hot, Ari was hangry, and the day was heading towards a seven-year-old meltdown.

So I did a U-turn, cancelled my meeting and headed home so we could get changed and go for a swim.

Whoever said women can have it all left out the bit about everything happening at once. Working while travelling solo with a child means something sometimes has to give. That day, it was my meeting.

A swim, a skate park and a happy boy later, we’d turned the day around. 💙

Love you, Cannes.

Europe with a seven-year-old looks a little different 🇫🇷🇮🇹

First, don’t expect perfection in every B&B or Airbnb. Those beautiful old buildings come with quirks, including showers that sometimes flood the bathroom. All part of our experience 😂

And my advice for travelling with young kids? Don’t build your itinerary around ruins unless they’re actually interested. I knew Ari wasn’t going to enjoy waiting in a long queue to look at something old just because it was famous.

So we spent our time on beaches, riding trains and spotting supercars. Things he could appreciate and get excited about at seven.

A few European moments from our travels. We made the trip our own ❤️
