I often wonder: when is the tipping point where the best days of your life are behind you?

When my baseball career came to an end, that’s honestly what I expected.

Fortunately, I was given a shot in the financial industry. At 22 years old, with no knowledge, no experience, and not even a proper set of dress clothes, I was given an opportunity that the traditional industry likely never would’ve offered me.

Now, after a decade in the industry, the most rewarding part is that every year has been more exciting, more meaningful, and more fulfilling than the last.

It’s made me realize that growth doesn’t have an expiration date. If you keep learning, keep building, and keep chasing a purpose bigger than yourself, there’s no reason to believe your best years can’t still be ahead of you.

A decade later, I’m more excited about the next 10 years than the last 10. by @brendanhendriks

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone in their 20s, it’d be this: interview your future.

Find someone who’s 15–20 years ahead of you in the career you’re pursuing and ask them about their life.

Don’t just ask about the income. Ask about their schedule. Their marriage. Their stress. Their health. How much time they have with their kids. What they wish they had done differently. Whether they’d choose the same path again.

Too many people choose a career without ever looking at where it leads.

Professional athletes. Former athletes. Olympians.

There’s a reason so many of them work with us.

The financial industry doesn’t reward titles, designations, or years of experience. It rewards integrity, discipline, consistency, and the value you create.

I was never the most talented athlete, but I was always one of the hardest working. When my playing career came to an end, I was looking for an industry that rewarded the same qualities that sports did.

Some careers offered high income but little flexibility. Others offered purpose and passion but limited financial upside. I was searching for something that rewarded effort and gave me the opportunity to build a life on my own terms.

We’ve seen people take that competitive mindset and channel it into building in 10 years what often takes decades in a traditional career. Not overnight. Not instantly. Just through consistent effort over time.

Pair that with a culture built on high standards and a desire to get better in every area of life, and it helps fill the void that sports left behind.

Business is the greatest sport.

No injuries. No expiration date.

Too many people believe professional financial advice is only for the wealthy.

The reality is, the families who benefit the most are often everyday Canadians looking for someone to help them make smarter financial decisions. Unfortunately, they’re also the people who are too often overlooked by the traditional financial industry.

One of my favourite parts of this career is getting to share good news with clients and celebrate the progress they’re making toward their financial goals.

10 years ago, one of the biggest reasons Karlee and I were drawn to the financial industry was the flexibility and the opportunity to create experiences like this.

Fast forward to today, and this business has taken us on more than 30 major trips around the world — Scotland, London, Alaska, Iceland, Hawaii, Mexico, to name a few, with Greece coming up next. This Cabo trip alone had over 200 people from our company there together.

We’ve always appreciated that this is an industry where the effort you put in directly impacts the opportunities and results you create. Even more meaningful is the fact that along the way, we’ve had the chance to help thousands of families improve their financial future while building lifelong friendships and memories through the journey.
