🇬🇧 Some news I’ve been looking forward to announcing: I am very proud to share with you my debut at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo (@opera_de_monte_carlo) in 2027 - and what a way to arrive: in the title role of Wagner’s Siegfried, as part of their new and widely praised Ring cycle.

Siegfried is one of the great mountains of the tenor repertoire, a role that consumes you entirely and somehow makes you more whole for it. Stepping into it for the first time, in a house with this history and with this artistic team and talented cast is a great honor, and I feel deeply fortunate to be trusted with it. I am very excited to work on and develop this great role!

For now, I am off to forge this role like Siegfried forges Nothung anew. Let the journey begin. 🗡️🔥

🇬🇧 Portraying Peter Grimes is a profound journey into the complexities of isolation and societal judgment. Britten’s opera delves into the psyche of an individual cast out and misunderstood, a theme that resonates deeply with me. As Britten himself noted, “A central feeling for us was that of the individual against the crowd, with ironic overtones for our own situation.” This sentiment underscores the universal struggle of the outsider.

I am immensely grateful for the support and warmth from both the audience and critics at the Luzerner Theater. Your engagement and appreciation bring this character to life in ways words cannot fully express.

There are moments in theater that we live for - the ones that send chills down your spine and bring you fully into the present moment.

Even *more* impressive is when these moments happen while watching opera online, like in Brett Sprague's performance of the Mad Scene ("Steady, there you are") in Peter Grimes from Benjamin Britten.

This past summer, Brett performed this iconic role at the Luzerner Theater with Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, conducted by Jonathan Bloxham, and each time we watch this scene we get *chills*.

Bravo to Kanttila Management artist tenor Brett Sprague for an amazing performance! If you have a chance to see Brett live - RUN! His full scope of work and upcoming concert dates can be found on his website www.brettsprague.com. (Check out our Highlight: Artist Spotlights!) by @brett_sprague

A requiem that moves us all 🕊️

What an unforgettable performance! With the poetry of Wilfred Owen, written in the trenches of the First World War, and the words of the Latin Requiem Mass, Britten’s War Requiem filled the hall. A mass for all victims of war, written for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral, and as relevant today as it was in 1962.

Under the baton of chief conductor @duncan_ward_conductor , 107 musicians brought this masterpiece to life, together with soloists @jacquelynwagnersoprano, @brett_sprague and @simonbaileybassbaritone, @grootomroepkoor, @studiumchorale and the children’s choir Schola Puerorum. A work this monumental asks a great deal of everyone involved, and it was special to create it together.

Thank you to all the musicians, soloists and singers, and to you in the audience: because of you, these were two unforgettable evenings. 🎻

Wondering what’s coming up this season? 👉 Take a look at our concert agenda

Yesterday it was an honor to give the first of two performances of Britten’s War Requiem for an amazing audience in Heerlen. The choir, the orchestra, the children’s choir, the chamber orchestra, the Organist, my fellow soloists, and our maestro were all magnificent. This is truly one of the greatest masterpieces ever composed and I was extremely moved to be a small part of this beautiful and evocative evening of music making. Thank you to the whole team for granting me the opportunity to perform this glorious music with you. Tomorrow afternoon we go again in Eindhoven. It will certainly be another performance to remember. by @brett_sprague

🇬🇧 It feels like just yesterday we closed out one season and now the first performance of the 26/27 season is already here! Tonight: the Wiederaufnahme of Die Fledermaus at Staatstheater Kassel. It’s my debut at this wonderful house, and my role debut as Eisenstein! I’ve sung Alfred a few times now, but stepping into Herr von Eisenstein has been such a joy. Huge thanks to the team and cast here for helping me get into this role and production in under two weeks, all while parallel-rehearsing Der fliegende Holländer. Auf geht’s in die neue Spielzeit!!! 🦇🥂

🦇🥂 taken in Staatstheater Kassel by @brett_sprague

Dearest Mia,
I love this picture from our wedding day. Not only because of its beauty, but because of what it represents to me: the two of us facing the horizon together, holding fast to one another. The vastness of the sea is just as vast as the possibilities facing us. All the good and hopeful, of course, but also the waves and the storms and the shifting currents that life always has in store for us. Just as we look to our future with hope, I also know we hold each other close, never letting go, regardless of how the sea may toss us. I love you, my darling. Happy Anniversary! by @brett_sprague

Back home from a family adventure in Paris and London! It was lovely showing these two great cities to people experiencing them for the first time. But most of all, it was just great to spend time with some of the people I love most.

Mia and I have been to both cities many times, but we still found a few new experiences. Let’s be honest, any city looks different with a 1 year old and an almost 5 year old in tow. Almost 5, mind you, not 4, as she would tell you.

Huge thank you to my mom, brother, and sister-in-law for flying across the world to catch our very brief window of availability. Out of respect for my nieces’ very cultivated social media presence, I won’t be posting their pictures. Official photos are available through their publicist 😉 taken in Paris, France by @brett_sprague
