And we’re done! The score is off to the mix house. I haven’t done the cue sheet yet, but it’s somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 cues. Plenty of short ones obviously, as it’s a 90 minute movie!

Thanks to @officialdylanvox for bringing me on… it’s alway a pleasure to work with you.

Tightening up the template and adjusting the ergonomics in prep for the film score I’m starting next week. It’s an inspirational story headed for the Roku platform produced by FOX. Ready to dig in!

A lovely last day of the ski season for me today and closing day for Palisades Tahoe. Coverage was obviously a little thin but @palisadestahoe did a great job moving snow around to keep things rolling or Shirley Lake and Gold Coast until today.

It was a weird weather season so I only got 14 days (usually I get around 20) and no Mammoth or Snowbird trips. Plus some aging knees kept some of the days shorter than I would’ve gone in the past, but overall a decent season for a weird snow year.

Graduation Day for Nate!

We’re so proud of the huge progress he’s made here at @calarts over the last four years. He was asked to play a 45 minute set of his original songs with his great band on the main stage for everyone waiting for the ceremony to start… such a cool honor!

Congratulations Nate! ❤️

Monday night was Nate’s CalArts Grad Recital. It was amazing to see the progress he’s made in his time at CalArts on display. All original songs except for the break where he sat at the piano and played the very challenging “Reflets dans l’eau” by Debussy on the piano. The band was well rehearsed and tight, the sound was quite good, and Nate’s stage presence was confident and engaging.

It was fun to have lots of our family and friends there to see it in the room and on the live stream. We’re so proud of him and all he’s accomplished.

He’ll be releasing his full album soon (Dad gets to help with that a little!), but for now the first single “comeback” is available to stream everywhere. taken in California Institute of the Arts by @briansteckler

Not tense enough today? How about a little extra tense music. You’re welcome.

Big news! Sunfish (the film I scored that went to Sundance this year) is coming to theaters and streaming in the fall!

From Deadline:
“The Future of Film is Female will release Sunfish (& Other Stories On Green Lake), the feature debut of writer-director Sierra Falconer, on September 12 at the IFC Center in New York with a national expansion to follow.

A wistful, slice of life anthology, which premiered at Sundance to strong reviews, follows intertwined lives around Green Lake in Michigan.

The film, executive produced by acclaimed director Joanna Hogg (The Souvenir), is the second distribution partnership for The Future of Film is Female after The Graduates by Hannah Peterson in 2024. The NYC-based nonprofit founded by Caryn Coleman is dedicated to releasing independent films directed by women and nonbinary filmmakers with a tailored release plan for each project.”

I was honored to talk with Christine Smith on the Musicians vs the World podcast about my career in music, and about tuning ukuleles in weird ways.

Here’s the glamorous side of film and tv composing… in this case tv. Printing alternate mixes and stems. But, it’s gotta be done so the editors have lots of choices to play with.
