It’s my birthday today, so it felt like a good time to properly introduce the person behind Bridge & Bloom. 🖤

Bridge & Bloom didn’t appear from nowhere. It has grown from years of teaching, studying art, photography, travelling, celebrating culture, championing young people and being endlessly curious about creative people and the stories behind what they make.

So this carousel is a little bit about me — but more importantly, it’s about why Bridge & Bloom exists.

Everything I’ve experienced has shaped what I want this organisation to become: a space that celebrates artists, connects people, creates opportunities and helps make the creative world feel a little more accessible.

On Friday, I had the pleasure of visiting Yeside Linney’s solo exhibition, From Where I Stand, at CHINAKWE in Brixton Village and attending her artist talk. ✨

There’s always something so inspiring about hearing an artist speak about their journey — their history, the experiences that have shaped them, the ideas behind the work and the passion that keeps them creating.

Seeing the work in person and then hearing the stories behind it gave the exhibition even more depth. I left feeling inspired by the honesty, emotion and sense of identity running through the work.

A beautiful evening of art, conversation and connection. 🖤

And the good news is, you can still experience it for yourself!

If you're in Brixton, I really encourage you to pop in, explore Yeside's beautiful work and support this wonderful artist.

BLACK CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT 05 | DOTUN DAVID POPOOLA 🖤

Continuing Bridge & Bloom’s Black History Month celebration with the incredible work of @dotundavid_popoola.

There is something immediately powerful about Dotun’s work. Using reclaimed and discarded materials, he creates striking sculptural portraits that are full of colour, texture, character and presence.

What really draws me in is the way the materials themselves become part of the story. Pieces that may once have been overlooked or discarded are transformed into monumental works celebrating identity, heritage, resilience and humanity.

The level of detail is incredible — there is so much to discover the longer you look.

Throughout October, Bridge & Bloom is celebrating Black artists and creatives whose work deserves to be seen, shared and discovered.

BLACK CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT 04 | COURTENAY KUSITOR 🖤

Continuing Bridge & Bloom’s Black History Month celebration with the beautiful work of @courtenay_kusitor_artist

Courtenay is a British-Ghanaian abstract artist whose work explores consciousness, perception and presence, using bold colour, intuitive mark-making and layers of movement to create paintings that invite you to stop, look and really feel.

What really drew me to Courtenay’s work is the balance between freedom and structure. Some pieces are vibrant and almost electric, while others feel quieter and more reflective — but there is always something happening beneath the surface.

Her use of colour is also closely connected to her Ghanaian heritage, including memories of Kente cloth and the power of colour and symbolism.

I love art that makes you look twice, and Courtenay’s work does exactly that. The layers, marks and unexpected colour combinations leave space for each viewer to find something different within them.

Throughout October, Bridge & Bloom will continue celebrating Black artists and creatives whose work, stories and perspectives deserve to be discovered and shared.

✨ YOUNG CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT | AVA DELANEY ✨

I couldn't let today's Africa Design Week Creative Mixer pass without giving @ava_dauley a little spotlight of her own! ❤️

As someone who is passionate about championing young creatives, I felt her performance deserved its own post.

There is something special about watching emerging talent express themselves through their art. Ava brought such wonderful energy and presence to the room, and it's important that we continue to celebrate and create spaces for the next generation of creatives to shine.

Ava, keep doing what you're doing! I'm excited to see where your journey in dance takes you.

✨ AFRICA DESIGN WEEK CREATIVE MIXER ✨

What an inspiring way to spend my morning! ❤️

I attended the Africa Design Week Creative Mixer today with my mum and my husband and left feeling genuinely excited about the vision, the people and everything that's to come.

It feels extra special seeing my friend @bilenzeremariam bringing such an incredible vision to life. She is an exceptional woman, and I honestly couldn't be prouder of her!

A special shout-out to Simone, Amrita, Magdalena and Kelly too. What a fantastic team of women, full of passion, creativity and determination. 🌍✨

I'm so excited to see this journey unfold and the opportunities it will create for African and diaspora creatives.

BLACK CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT 03 | KOFFINS 🖤
Continuing Bridge & Bloom’s Black History Month celebration with the striking work of @koffins.art.

I first came across @koffins.art at the Art & Culture show back in April, and it was one of those moments where I found myself stopping and really looking.

What caught me immediately was the vibrancy — the bold colour, expressive portraiture and that strong, clean aesthetic that runs throughout the work. There is a real confidence to the compositions, and each piece has its own personality while still feeling unmistakably part of the same visual world.

What I particularly enjoy about @koffins.art is the way the work celebrates Black identity, presence and imagination. The imagery feels contemporary, memorable and full of character, turning portraiture into something playful, powerful and visually striking.

Throughout October, Bridge & Bloom will continue celebrating Black artists and creatives whose work, ideas and perspectives deserve to be seen, shared and discovered.

AFRICA DESIGN WEEK | COCKTAIL LAUNCH 2026 ✨🌿

What a beautiful evening celebrating creativity, culture and community at the @africadesignweek Cocktail Launch.

A huge congratulations to @bilenzeremariam and the @africadesignweek team on such a fabulous launch. 🖤

The dress code said it perfectly:

ABUNDANCE • COLOURFUL • TRADITIONAL

And everyone absolutely delivered. ✨

It was beautiful watching the room fill with colour, traditional dress, texture, pattern and personal style — such a wonderful nod to our cultures, our heritage and the richness of African creativity.

There was so much pride, energy and connection in the room, and it felt like the perfect way to begin what is still to come.

Congratulations again to @bilenzeremariam and @africadesignweek —thank you for the invitation - looking forward to seeing what you create for Africa Design Week 2027. 🌍✨

Monday evening back at Sotheby’s Institute of Art for a brilliant conversation with Mexican artist Paloma Contreras Lomas (@lirio_cobra). ✨

Hearing Paloma speak about her practice, history, identity, power and the many layers that shape culture really resonated with me — both as the founder of Bridge & Bloom Creative Arts and as a Sotheby’s alumna.

Such a thought-provoking evening. 🖤

Paloma’s exhibition Disco Inferno is currently showing at Gasworks, London — definitely worth a visit!

BLACK CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT 02 | MARY CHRIS 🖤

For our second Black Creative Spotlight this Black History Month, I’m featuring artist and jewellery designer @marychrisjewellery.

This one is particularly special for me because Mary is one of my former students, so being able to see how far she has come and the creative practice she has built since then is genuinely lovely.

Mary’s work explores memory, home, identity and transformation, reimagining familiar objects through jewellery and object-making.

What really draws me to her practice is the way something small and wearable can carry a much bigger story — connecting personal experiences, places and memories through material and making.

There’s something quite full-circle about being able to feature a former student through Bridge & Bloom and celebrate the artist she has become. 🖤

Kicking off Black History Month 2026 at Bridge & Bloom Creative Arts with @jayarts__.

Jayarts’ work feels instantly alive — movement, music, fashion, tenderness, joy and Black presence all sit within the work.

From energetic scenes to quieter, more intimate moments, each piece tells its own story while still feeling part of a wider visual conversation.

What I particularly love is the space his work gives to Black joy — people moving, creating, playing, expressing themselves and simply existing beautifully.
