Join us August 14… We still can't quite believe this happened.

Over the past three months, we've had the privilege of watching Kimberly Jiang and Aaron Luellen grow through BRIDGEGOOD's UX Design Apprenticeship. Recently we got to share part of that journey live on KRON4, thanks to the wonderful Reyna Harvey, who has been such a generous supporter of our work.

Watching Aaron and Kim go from learning the fundamentals of UX design to sitting in front of a live TV camera, speaking about the work they built and who they've become, was one of the proudest moments for our whole team. They did that. And we are just as proud of all 20 apprentices in this cohort who poured the same heart into this program, even if only two of them got to be on camera that day.

Three thoughts keep coming back to us.

Growth rarely feels like growth while it's happening. Our apprentices are heads down, learning, iterating, pushing through challenges. It isn't always until a moment like this one that the change becomes visible.

Real opportunity changes what people believe is possible for themselves. Give someone a project, a mentor, and a chance, and watch what happens.

Community shows up when you invite it in. Reyna didn't have to cover this story. She chose to, because she believes in what BRIDGEGOOD is building.

None of this happens without a lot of people behind the scenes. Thank you to our Executive Director Shaun Tai, our staff Angela, Elisa, and Mubarak, and our Board of Directors for the everyday work that makes this program possible.

Seventeen years of Inspire Oakland and the room was more electric than ever. 💛

Designers showed up with their ideas, their stories, their nerves, their families, their friends, and their full creative selves. And Oakland showed up right back.

This is what design for social good looks like.

It looks like students getting the mic.
It looks like a packed room listening.
It looks like teachers cheering.
It looks like families recording every moment.
It looks like young creatives realizing, “Wait… I belong here.”

To our Top 20 designers: you did that. You stood up, shared your work, and reminded everyone why student voices deserve to be amplified.

At BRIDGEGOOD, creativity is the input. Economic mobility should be the outcome. Inspire Oakland is just one moment, but it opens the door to what comes next: confidence, community, mentorship, career pathways, and real support beyond the showcase.

Thank you to everyone who came through, clapped loud, donated, judged, mentored, hugged, took photos, and made the space feel full of love.

This is Oakland.
This is community.
This is the design for social good movement.

I’m so freaking proud of what we built!!! ☀️

Meet Solace, an app designed to help those with chronic illnesses that cause brain fog (like POTS) communicate what they need during flare days. ❤️

Our team had 3 months to build an app that would make a difference and we nailed it. We had just 3 months to research, design, wireframe, and prototype a full app and we cannot wait to polish it up and get it in the App Store/google play store!!! 🙌

Aaron (he/him) is a UX design apprentice and professional Muay Thai coach based in Oakland. He loves breaking down how people think and move whether that’s cornering a fighter mid round or mapping out a user flow. Outside of class, you can catch him at the gym coaching or a cafe in his free time.

THIS is what three months of commitment looks like... Purpose to Pixels Product Showcase was wildly inspiring. Watching our apprentices walk on that stage and OWN it, after everything they pushed through to get there, was one of the most emotional nights we’ve had at BRIDGEGOOD.

These are people who came in nervous, unsure, still finding their voice. And on August 14, they stood up in front of a full room and presented products they built from the ground up, with so much confidence it gave us chills.

We watched people who used to freeze up at public speaking take the mic like they were born for it. We watched frustration turn into breakthroughs. We watched teammates step up and become leaders right in front of us. It was everything.

Because that’s the whole point of BRIDGEGOOD. We’re not just teaching design skills, we’re building the kind of space where you can mess up, figure it out, grow, and come out the other side more confident than you’ve ever been.

To every apprentice who showed up for themselves these past three months: we are so unbelievably proud of you. This is only the beginning.

And to the staff, board, and volunteers who make this whole thing possible, thank you for believing in these apprentices as much as we do.

Their purpose became ideas. Their ideas became pixels. Those pixels became possibilities.
