This year feels extra special because it’s your first birthday as a dad and you’ve become an even more extraordinary version of yourself. Through the late nights, the first smiles and the gentle way you hold our baby, you’ve made it all look so natural. I’m endlessly thankful for you, for the partner you are to me and the father you are to our child. This story has been a long time in the making.

When we lived in Astoria, we walked past a blank storefront on 36th Ave almost every day, desperately hoping it would turn into a coffee shop. Eventually, our wishes were soon caffeinated when Little Flower Café appeared and quickly became our “third place”. Bryan wrote a chunk of Pan y Dulce there while sipping lattes, we hosted pop ups, held some business meetings, and Bryan even got in the kitchen and worked on their pastry program.

That’s where my husband @artisanbryan met @ali_adam_zaman and @mo.ghiasi of @biggerpicturehospitality . These two are kind, generous and also some of the biggest hustlers we know in this city. What started as conversations over coffee grew into a friendship rooted in food, and a deep respect and curiosity for each other’s cultures.

Now, years later, that friendship has turned into the bakery Diljān, in Brooklyn Heights.
The word Diljān is used as a term of endearment in Afghanistan, meaning beloved, and is often used to express warmth and love. It feels like the perfect name for this project, which was treated with so much care and consideration from all sides.

Watching Bryan step into Afghan flavors and traditions with humility and excitement has been inspiring to see (and taste). After finishing Pan y Dulce, he needed a new place to pour himself into, and this bakery has reignited that spark.

Opening something like this in our country, right now, feels both brave and hopeful. It’s about honoring culture, choosing collaboration, and creating a space where all people feel seen and welcome.

So proud of this team and this story.

Happy anniversary @bridgetannkenna it’s been 5 years since you produced my first tv show, 2 years married, and now 11 weeks in to having this new little guy in our family. The most special and beautiful day of our life. I’m in complete awe of my wife @bridgetannkenna and the strength and grace she has displayed.
