It’s the season finale of The Flaky Biscuit Podcast today fam! I want to send a special thanks to the teams at @shondaland @iheartpodcast and of course to my amazing wife and business partner who created this show @bridgetannkenna - we travelled across the country together to seek out unique guests and make thier most nostalgic meal. With nostalgia as a vehicle, each bite gets us into the heart of how our guests have overcome the challenges of life, to becoming a pillar within their respective industry. What’s unique about this podcast is that we end each episode with a call to action from our guests to our listeners to create positive impacts within their own communities. And I have to say we are finishing with an episode that will blow your mind. Chef Mike Carter (@coolhandmiz) left me speechless at times with his story about getting out of the carceral system and becoming the executive chef of @downnorth_pizza - and y’all GOT to check out what he thought about my preparation of his most nostalgic meal - his grandmothers chicken and dumplings. Today on The Flaky Biscuit Podcast it’s the homie @biggsjason who pulled up for me to prepare his most nostalgic meal: Stromboli. I hooked it up with some excellently fermented dough and the fixings from my local deli, Dave & Tony’s (who always have the fresh fresh). You gotta load it up properly and have some marinara (or pesto??) to dip it in. Listen wherever you stream your pods fam!

This week on The Flaky Biscuit podcast I cooked for @chefro137 and we had a really spectacular conversation - but when it came to making her nostalgic meal I had a misfire on the corn bread 😂 so this is how I should have done it! Stream wherever you listen to podcasts to hear what went down, and make some of the good stuff yourself:
190 grams toasted cornmeal (I used @rivervalleycommunitygrains waspie valley)
120 grams all purpose flour
10 grams baking powder
5 grams salt
5 grams
50 grams brown sugar
50 grams honey
2 egg yolks
2 whole eggs
130 grams unsalted butter, melted
14oz buttermilk

1. Preheat the oven to 450f
2. Combine your flours, sugar, leavening agents and salt to a bowl. Whisk and set aside.
3. Combine all remaining ingredients and whisk together.
4. Prepare your baking vessel so that you can pour the batter in immediately after mixing.
5. Combine the dry and wet ingredients until a batter forms and immediately pour into baking vessel and get into the oven. Bake for 20 minutes and serve with honey and butter.

I’m thrilled to share the first episode of The Flaky Biscuit Podcast. This project has been two years in the making and it feels like a dream that it’s finally out in the world! I want to thank the incredible and supportive teams at @shondaland and @iheartpodcast . It has been an absolute joy to work with them and we feel honored to be a part of the talented and inspiring family of @shondarhimes !

On this inaugural episode, our amazing host (and Flaky Biscuit Media Co-Founder!) @artisanbryan is joined by sommelier, restaurateur, and the host of World of Wine— André Mack. Bryan and @andrehmack share a homemade version of André’s favorite childhood snack: Tastykakes Butterscotch Krimpets.

So thrilled to be joining the @shondaland fam, hosting my new podcast The Flaky Biscuit! This show, created by @bridgetannkenna @flakybiscuitmedia and in partnership with @iheartradio sees me cooking/baking my guests most nostalgic meals to see if I can bring them back to those cherished moments in the past via the Proust Effect - an involuntary, sensory-induced, vivid and emotional reliving of events from the past. I will be posting and sharing these recipes on our Discord channel, and our guests will let me know if I nailed it or not.
