✨ You Can’t Confidence Yourself Out of Oppression
In this Vital Conversations episode, @briennefrombronx opens up about the quiet grief of missing moments… not because of lack of confidence, but because the world wasn’t built with fat, disabled bodies in mind.
This one is about sadness, regret, and the deep frustration of constantly having to ask:
 “Will I be safe here?”
“Will I be welcomed—or just tolerated?”
“Is it even worth the energy to ask for what I need?”

✨ New from the USDAC Vital Conversations series:
Access is Love: Spacemaking for Fat & Disabled Artists
Join @briennefrombronx in conversation with fat fashion designers @peridot_robes and @shopjoytoast, filmed at the JOYTOAST studio in Chicago, IL.
This episode reflects on how fat and disabled artists navigate creative spaces, and what it means to build ones rooted in care, access, and belonging. 💞
Peridot Robes and JOYTOAST are online shops making space for fat joy and fashion justice.
🎥 Stay tuned for the next episode of Vital Conversations
 🤝 In collaboration with @peridot_robes + @shopjoytoast

I’m married to the most loving, kindest woman to have ever existed in my life. A lot is wrong, my kidneys are failing and life is simply lifing, but I am grateful for the choice I made in love🥰 Monica Latrice Watson my road dog, my biggest champion, my wonderful wife. We’re not perfect, but we’re committed to this love💓 by @brienneofbronx

Earlier this year, USDAC launched Vital Conversations to respond to this year of chaos, authoritarianism, and destruction.

Across this series, we’ve explored:
💥Why non-cooperation is one of the most effective tools for resisting fascism
🌷What care and solidarity can look like when reimagined through conversations with fat fashion designers
🎨 How artists can resist being instrumentalized by civic forces
🗡️How some communities are thinking about collective self-defense
👁️‍🗨️And how to strengthen digital security as repression and surveillance increase

Each installment offers something distinct. But the thread running through all of them is this: Even in the hardest moments, artists help illuminate the path forward.

As the days lengthen, we encourage you to check out this year’s Vital Conversations and get inspired for a new year of creative resistance.

With care,

☄️Your hearts wisdom acts as a compass, bringing you direction and alignment signals as you make your choices.☄️

Learning in real time here that my desires are my roadmap. My pleasure, what makes me bloom in all the ways, that matters. More than anything right now.
