Brighter’s Fall feature, realtor, wife, mother, and breast cancer survivor Courtney Benson @justagirlwithcancer refuses to let her circumstances define her. She explained that while things might look different or feel harder than they did before, she doesn’t want to put her life on hold for cancer. We admire Courtney’s mindset—you CAN thrive through cancer!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is always a busy time as a cancer support organization, and we are grateful for all the attention that this disease gets in October, because it brings us closer to a cure and to a world where women (and men) are more easily able to access the support they need when they are impacted. But we wish the enthusiasm could extend beyond the month of October. Our goal is to serve women affected by cancer when they need us, and that reality is year round. Support, awareness, and change shouldn’t be restricted to one month out of twelve. Let’s do what we can to support the community in and out of October.

For information on other support organizations, click the link in our bio or visit the resource page of our website.

Diagnosed with breast cancer at 35 years old, Cequinta made it her mission to educate others with her story. Cequinta’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 21 years ago, at the same age that Cequinta would be diagnosed as well as the same stage of cancer. Cequinta encourages others to listen to their intuition and advocate for themselves.

I recently had the chance to sit down with the @brightermagazine team in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and share my story. It’s the magazine that always made me feel seen when I lived in my room for 6 months of chemotherapy because I was too tired, too weak, too everything - and every time it arrived it somehow had an article that felt custom written for where I was at the time.

I’ll be honest - Breast Cancer Month is a bit tough for me. It’s hard to talk about a disease that changed your entire life, that still does, and it’s even harder to tie it all into a neat post. But somehow, their team was able to capture the absurdity of it all so beautifully.

And if this helps just one more woman schedule that next mammo, or your annual MRI, or ask your doctor about your risk factors - then it’s all worth it. 💕

🎀 Breast cancer awareness, turned into wearable art💗

I turned my original painting, “Dance Through the Journey,” into a scarf, T-shirt, mug & sticker — creating art you can wear while supporting a cause that matters.

100% of the T-shirt proceeds are donated to Brighter Magazine @brightermagazine to help support people navigating the cancer journey. 💕

Every purchase is a small way to wear your support, spread awareness, and give back.

A huge thank you to DTF Dallas @dtfdallasprint for donating the T-shirts and helping bring this artwork from canvas to fabric. 🩷
