Hello! Can’t forget a Breast Cancer Awareness Month post!

This has been a rough one and I’ve been off Instagram, which has reminded me that there are a lot of offline things you can do to support us during BCAM and always. Here are three!

1. Write a letter supporting the Metastatjc Breast Cancer Access to Care Act, which would waive the two year waiting period for Medicare for those with stage 4. Many people don’t have that time to wait. This is a common sense, compassionate bill that deserves approval.
2. Phone a friend! Literally just reach out to someone you know who’s had breast cancer and talk to them. It’s free! It’s nice to keep in touch!
3. Donate to get @brightermagazine into more cancer centers and oncology offices everywhere! I am a Brighter ambassador this year and it’s my goal to raise $1,000 for them. I’m $85 away from that goal! Brighter is a great, inclusive magazine and I’m proud to support it. Link in bio to my fundraising page.

BCAM drives me crazy but it also drives the biggest increase in mammogram appointments all year. It’s important! I hope if you have had breast cancer that you’re staying sane this month. #stage4needsmore #metastaticbreastcancer #breastcancerawarenesscampaign #breastcancersupport

New year, same mission, bigger impact! Hope Healing Cancer with Music is returning to the Granada Theater on February 28, 2027! This is a student-led music festival bringing our community together through live music, inspiring stories, and a whole lot of HOPE. We have team leads and members from Hockaday, Ursuline, Lake Highlands HS, and Greenhill!

Long few days — appointments, recovery, lymphatic drainage physio and repeat. Sometimes 3 appointments same day, aah it’s too much. I’m keeping calendar and notes updated like never before 😊 Next treatment ✨ is coming up soon!!

I was so honored to share a little of my story and speak about why Brighter’s mission means so much to me and why this resource is so valuable to the cancer community. Turning a fun morning of mahjong into an opportunity to bring hope, encouragement, and connection to women facing cancer is truly something special.

What a great day! Pink everywhere, Mahjong on the tables, and SO much energy in the room! 🎀🀄️

Our Mahj for a Cause event brought 32 women together for something bigger than the game we love. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we came dressed in pink, played Mahj, shared lots of laughs, and raised funds for Brighter Magazine.

A huge thank you to Amy for joining us and sharing more about Brighter Magazine and the incredible support it provides to women navigating cancer. From emotional and mental wellness to physical well-being, Brighter is there to help women through their cancer journey and remind them they are not alone. And with 100% of its funding coming from donations, every bit of support makes a difference. 💗

A special shoutout to Lynn, who was the catalyst behind bringing this event to life. Without her push and passion, this day wouldn’t have happened! And I appreciate Julie and Brandi for jumping in to help with setup and making sure everything was ready for such a wonderful day. 💕

Also, I want to thank Hotel Dax – Top Brass for welcoming us into their beautiful private space; and a HUGE thank you to the 32 women who showed up, wore their pink, brought the energy, and helped make this event so special.

We love what happens when Mahjong brings people together, especially when we can make a difference along the way. 💕

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, so much of the conversation focuses on awareness and screening, I also want to talk about what’s next.
A couple weeks ago, I had the privilege of being at the opening of the new Texas Cancer Interception Institute at Baylor Scott & White and sitting alongside Chief of Oncology Dr. Ronan Kelly on Good Morning Texas to share the patient perspective.
As a cancer advocate, I was truly blown away by this phenomenal space, the future of cancer detection, built out as an actual command center that will intersect over 500 BSW locations state wide for cancer detection.
The landscape of cancer detection is changing in front of our eyes! Today, routine screening exists for only four major cancers—breast, cervical, colorectal and lung-representing about 28% of cancer diagnoses. That means roughly 72% of cancers do not have a routine screening test. Unreal.
BSW is working to change that and it’s not a distant dream. It’s now. TCII brings together emerging blood-based cancer detection, advanced imaging, genetics and Al with the goal of finding cancer at its earliest stages and ultimately making cancer detection part of everyone’s healthcare plan.
And it isn’t only about technology. TCII surrounds patients with navigation, genetic counseling and mental health support-because early detection still comes with fear and uncertainty. A multiple-disciplinary team approach will be with patients every step of the way.
As someone who lost my mom to stage 4 breast cancer and then heard “you have cancer” myself four months later, this is deeply personal. I know what early detection can mean, and ! know what it means when cancer is found too late.
For decades we’ve asked: How do we treat cancer once we find it? Now we can also ask: How do we find it earlier, at its earliest moments intervene before it becomes advanced disease?
For me, it’s about changing the fear of knowing into the power of knowing—not just for cancer survivors like me, but for my children and the generations that come after us.
I am incredibly grateful to have had a small seat at the table as this next chapter begins in cancer care 💗

I recently had the chance to sit down with the @brightermagazine team in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and share my story. It’s the magazine that always made me feel seen when I lived in my room for 6 months of chemotherapy because I was too tired, too weak, too everything - and every time it arrived it somehow had an article that felt custom written for where I was at the time.

I’ll be honest - Breast Cancer Month is a bit tough for me. It’s hard to talk about a disease that changed your entire life, that still does, and it’s even harder to tie it all into a neat post. But somehow, their team was able to capture the absurdity of it all so beautifully.

And if this helps just one more woman schedule that next mammo, or your annual MRI, or ask your doctor about your risk factors - then it’s all worth it. 💕

💜 Caring for the caregiver means remembering that they need support, too.

I’m honored to share my story in Brighter Magazine’s Quarter 4 feature, “Caring for the Caregiver: Lessons from Jasmin Wilson’s Journey.”

At 21, I became part of my mother Janice Woodside’s caregiving circle as she faced inflammatory breast cancer. Our family surrounded her with love, but even with that support, the emotional and practical demands were heavy.

That experience helped shape my calling as a medical social worker and inspired the Janice Woodside Foundation, where we honor her legacy by supporting single mothers affected by breast cancer.

In this interview, I share why caregivers deserve space to acknowledge their feelings, recognize their limits, ask for help, and care for their own health.

To every caregiver: needing rest does not diminish your love. Asking for support does not diminish your strength. Your wellbeing matters, too. 💜
