Ahhh. Our first post!! Hi from Bright Little Things 👋🏼

So, what actually is Bright Little Things? 💡🌈

It’s a little corner of the internet for parents and educators of little learners to learn how to best support their children’s early years of learning

It’s somewhere I can share the tips, tricks, games and activities I actually use as a Year 1 TA and trainee teacher to make learning feel fun, exciting, and most importantly, help it click

Children are ALWAYS learning and what a privilege it is to be shaping the next generation 🫶🏼

During the school holidays, I’ll be offering 1:1 learning sessions for children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 with the aim of keeping little minds learning, filling in the gaps and building on the skills they’ve learnt in the classroom

There is no one-size-fits-all approach and thats why I believe the Bright Little Things Approach of making learning fun and work for them is the way forward ✏️📚

So follow along for little ways to make learning click and welcome to Bright Little Things 💛 taken in Ascot, Bracknell Forest, United Kingdom by @brightlittlethingslearning

I suppose I better introduce myself seeing as I’m the face behind Bright Little Things 🫶🏼

Hi, I’m Rachel, a 32 year old Scorpio sun who’s obsessed with running, reading and teaching little people

I honestly did not see myself here (training to be a teacher) when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grow up but as fate would have it, I fell into a year 1 teaching assistant role 11 years ago & have loved being in the classroom ever since. I took 2 years out after Covid to try and re-pursue my PT career but found I missed being in the classroom & working with children so went back working as a teaching assistant in Reception and started my teacher training 2 years ago when I turned 30 (yes you can start uni at 30!!)

I am a woman of many passions, many ideas & I love living my life to the fullest. I love inspiring everyone around me to be the best version of themselves and I love encouraging children to be confident & independent and teaching them all there is to learn in this life. Every day is a learning day & seeing a little ones face light up when they’ve mastered something they couldn’t do before honestly lights up my soul ✨

I hope this page can be my little space on the internet to share my wisdom as a decade old teaching assistant, 3rd year trainee teacher & newbie school holiday nanny & in turn I hope it helps all you mums, dads, parents, careers, educators best support your little learners in their early years of learning 📚

I’m pretty much an open book so anything you want to know, just ask away 😘 I look forward to sharing what I learn with you all 🫶🏼

Much love

Rachel xo

These are an accumulation of my favourite number rhymes that I’ve felt work best time and time again when teaching the correct number formation

Full disclaimer; I didn’t come up with these sayings. I can’t remember where I heard them. However, I did come up with the graphics though so credit where credits due 🤪

I’ve seen this work across my years as a TA + then this summer when nannying. I noticed children respond better (& therefore formed the number correctly) when they had a verbal prompt to match what they were writing & these are my go to’s every. single. time

You can grab my beautifully illustrated number card PDF which has numbers 0-9 with my favourite prompts + clear tracing pathway for children to follow via the link 🔗

I don’t know about you other teachers out there but our little learners in year 1 have come in this morning with the biggest smiles. You’d honestly think they’d have been back for weeks 🥹🫶🏼

We’re still learning the tricks of the trade for year 1 but I am so impressed with them so far. Honestly, give them the opportunity to rise and they will 💫

Ahh I can’t believe we are here already 😍 it’s time to welcome in all the new faces tomorrow!!

Although, I’ll be welcoming back Year 1, these are my best tips for supporting your little learner in their first week in Reception having spent a whopping 5 years down in EYFS

Be brave grown ups, your little ones are ready for this. Have faith in them & their teachers, this is the next step on their journey 🥹 taken in Bracknell by @brightlittlethingslearning

Seems simple right? But as a parent or carer it’s very easy to just “do things for them so you can get it done quicker” and where yes this saves you time, when your little one joins reception and suddenly there’s a class of 20+ and only 4 (ish) adults, they’re left feeling like there’s no one to help them because they’re used to having everything done for them

The funny thing is, the more independence and responsibility you give your child, the more confidence they build within themselves to take on the challenges that school is about to present them with

The independence develops into a “can do” attitude which in turn builds into resilience which when it comes to writing, numbers, learning new things is ALL key

The academics will come (and I’ll be sharing my tips on that too soon) but honestly you cannot go wrong with the basics

Your children want to be part of your world & they are still mini people at the end of the day

Let them be their own little person as you guide them along the way 🫶🏼 taken in Ascot, Bracknell Forest, United Kingdom by @brightlittlethingslearning
