BRINGERS OF DREAMS: 2 -25 October 2026

Is there a piece of music that instantly transports you home? ๐ŸŽถ

One Song is an audio-visual installation and community archive developed by artist Kadir Karababa with Brighton refugee and migrant communities. It explores how music carries memory, identity and a sense of belonging across borders.

Created in partnership with BREMF and Fabrica, the project invited local participants to share a song that connects them to the place they first called home.

In Lunaris, Anna Stegmann and Jorge Jimeฬnez move freely between the centuries. See what happens when medieval canons merge with Luciano Berio's modern sounds, while Beฬla Bartoฬk converses with Johann Sebastian Bach.

What connects astronomy, Tartiniโ€™s Devil, and our UK tour? Discover Jeฬroฬ‚me Lalande: the astronomer who helped predict Halleyโ€™s Cometโ€™s return, catalogued nearly 50,000 stars, and recorded observations of Neptune before its identity was recognised. But he also wrote about Tartini and the Devilโ€ฆ

Follow us as we explore the life and music of Tartini and discover some of the finest compositions of the 18th century.

Another dreamy weekend ahead. ๐ŸŒ™

Starting on Thursday, @thefi.nehand join us for a hands-on workshop where you'll transform your dreamscape into symbols and images, creating unique graphic scores and bringing them to life through music. No musical experience required, and all ages welcome. Then on Friday evening, they take to the stage to explore the connections between medieval European song and Appalachia's ballad traditions in Send it by the Water. Blending historical performance, improvisation and folk traditions, they create a poignant journey through migration, memory, imagined homelands and the dreams we inherit.

Saturday is Dowland Day, starting with Draw on, Sweet Night, where tenor @kwhite_tenor and @republicofviols explore music of sleep, melancholy and dream-like vision. Next, we have Nightly Cares: A Pilgrimโ€™s Solace, where lute-song experts @dowlandsfoundry are joined by award-winning actor Will Keen in a profound exploration of John Dowlandโ€™s darkest final songbook. To end the day, Ruby Hughes and @nordbergjonas make their festival debut in Amidst the Shades, a captivating and nuanced programme that weaves songs by John Dowland with the music of Robert Johnson, Henry Purcell and Errollyn Wallen in an intimate and expressive late-night duo concert.

On Sunday, @olwen.foulkes leads the A=415 Instrumental Workshop, a chance to explore some baroque chamber music repertoire together with like-minded enthusiasts. Closing out the weekend, Anna Stegmann and Jorge Jimeฬnez bring us Lunaris, a programme for recorder and violin exploring moonlight, transformation and imagination which invites us to look upwards and to dream.

Itโ€™s the perfect way to wrap up the week. We look forward to seeing you there! by @brightonemf

๐ŸŒ™ Draw on, sweet night ๐ŸŒ™

Iโ€™m delighted to be joining Republic of Viols for the first time for a special programme at this yearโ€™s Brighton Early Music Festival, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the death of John Dowland.

Together, weโ€™ll explore a world of sleep, melancholy and dream-like visions, weaving Dowlandโ€™s haunting songs with the exquisite dances of Lachrimae, music by his contemporaries, and a touch of French air de cour.

The programme includes Flow, my tears, Come, heavy sleep and Time stands still โ€” music that speaks across four centuries with extraordinary intimacy and beauty.

This past weekend saw @londonhandelplayers take to the stage on Friday with Purcell's The Fairy Queen featuring our BREMF Emerging Artists vocal soloists @rubyskilbeckmusic @emmawarner2 @lauralouisetoomey & @hugojwilliamson (plus EA alumnus @allyn.wu).

On Saturday it was the turn of the Emerging Artists ensembles @lesacolytes.uk @bruegel_consort @vega_consort & @themelionensemble, who presented an afternoon Showcase and evening Clubnight @the_rose_hill.

Few rooms could suit Purcellโ€™s The Fairy Queen as well as St Georgeโ€™s Church, where Brighton Early Music Festival presented the 1692 semi-opera on Friday night. The high vaults and clean Georgian lines lent the music a crisp, detailed elegance, as though the building had been drawn to the scoreโ€™s measure. Its Kemp Town setting, in Brightonโ€™s queer heartland, felt apt for a work devoted to enchantment, disguise and desire....

Always a highlight of Brighton Early Music Festival - the BREMF Emerging Artists Showcase. Rich and graceful French repertoire played with style by @lesacolytes.uk , then dreamy lute songs with strong characterisation and expression from @vega_consort . After obligatory sumptuous cake, the @themelionensemble gave us polished and accomplished Handel & Leclair in Italian mode, before the @bruegel_consort concluded with a smooth blend and even ensemble in complex Fayrfax. @brightonemf #earlymusic #BREMF taken in St Paul's Church, Brighton by @brightonemf
