PRESENTING: BRIKKUNI

SATURDAY 2nd MAY - @jagermeister STAGE AT @rockthesouthmt 13th edition →

Headlining the Jagermeister stage on the Saturday, the grand festival return of none other than powerhouse Brikkuni! Often credited with the revival of Maltese sung pop music, Brikkuni have been doing the rounds since their seminal 2008 debut 'Kuntrabanda' - a genre bending pop/rock/punk hybrid that transformed the band into a local cult phenomenon ushering in a new wave of Maltese alternative music in its wake. Founded in 2006 as, partly, a response to the excessive proliferation of English and transatlantic aesthetics within the local music culture, the band insists on defying pigeon-holing while wilfully entertaining politically charged and/or controversial subject matter - an approach which has often landed Brikkuni in some pretty hot water. Brikkuni's willingness to operate out of their comfort zone and play around with unfamiliar genre and textures make each album release a rather unpredictable affair that remains equally timeless and true to the band’s spirit.
