I sat in the parking lot at Bowls for awhile watching the waves while listening to the song on repeat in its 12 minute entirety. I paddled out humming and surfing to its rhythm for the rest of the session.

This past swell at Deserts was so hectic—one of the most tense lineups I’ve ever seen. I spent most of the day in the water and only caught a handful of waves. I have had a lot of luck in Indo so far but I got so beat up this trip. Ended up with sliced-up feet, a chafed butt cheek, and 5 stitches. Now, I’m limping around, on antibiotics for infections, and it hurts to sit.

Feeling super grateful for everything nonetheless and trying to take this as an opportunity to slow down. I can’t wait to heal already but being forced to relax feels nice. It made me realize I haven’t stopped moving since I arrived in Indo.

In 8 weeks I completed @kuleanacoral ‘s Coral Occupations and Scientific Techniques (COAST) course an accelerated program focused on coral restoration, dive techniques and ocean conservation.

I went from never scuba diving in my life to earning my NAUI Advanced Scuba + Rescue Diver certifications, while also learning hands-on coral restoration techniques specific to Hawaiʻi waters and building a deeper understanding of coral ecology.

This experience really opened up my world. It gave me new skills, but more than anything it deepened my love and kuleana for our ocean and ʻāina, and showed me so many new possibilities for where I can keep learning and contributing.

So grateful for this opportunity, for every person who came to share their ʻike with us, and for all the kind, caring people I got to meet along the way. I still have sooo much to learn, but I’m excited to keep learning, growing and finding ways to give back 💙

COAST Week 2 is pau!

Meet @britroza a student in this year’s COAST cohort from ʻEwa.

Last week marked a huge milestone as our students earned and celebrated their first SCUBA certification: @nauiworldwide Open Water Diver! 🎉

The learning didn’t stop there. Students also dove into coral ecology and biology, the threats facing Hawaiʻi’s reefs, and the techniques we use to help restore these important ecosystems. They then put their new knowledge into action by practicing how to drill into substrate and safely use the tools needed for coral restoration.

Next up, students will learn species ID, how our team selects restoration sites, and begin their Advanced Open Water training.

Their journey is just getting started, and we can’t wait to see what Week 3 brings!

This fills my cup. Another @saltygoddessretreats in the books.

I love teaching. I love holding space where people can soften and feel open. I love meeting new souls, hearing new stories, discovering new ways of moving through the world. And I love being part of a team that cares and loves so much.

I’ve been focused on coaching and guiding for @saltygoddessretreats this trip but got to snag a session for myself a couple days ago. Restaurants has eluded me on nearly every trip to Fiji. Im always dreaming of getting it good, and this swell finally gave me a small taste! I feel so lucky to have caught this one because shortly after the rocks began popping up in the lineup and it started shutting down. It all about windows here.
