I remember coming to pick my brother up from class at OHMS (our primary school) one day and running into one of my old teachers. She was so surprised to find out that he was my brother. I still remember the way she stared at me in disbelief, repeatedly asking, “He’s your brother? He’s your brother?” 😂

You see Engr Britannia Lari Snr.’s (my dad not me 🤭) nuclear family consists of a team of very reserved and somewhat (wavering hand gesture) introverted people but then there’s one person who somehow missed that memo; my brother Izonebi. (EE-zawn-ay-bee)

Izonebi means “Ijaw is good” or as I prefer “Ijaw is beautiful”, and honestly, I think that name captures a part of my brother that I’ve come to appreciate more and more, the beauty he expresses through his creativity.

I’ve always been that person to go by the books and follow the rules, so you can understand my confusion and the gap in understanding when I experienced my first glimpse of individuality from a person. Took me a while but in recent years I have gradually begun to understand that people are different and that’s okay.

Free spirited, a larger than life personality and a creative genius.

You see what my teacher in school didn’t understand is being brothers isn’t synonymous with being the same person, rather different fruits from the same seed, I think it’s one of the expressions of the creativity of God.

You’re not bound by similar characteristics, you’re bound by blood, duty and I dare say love that you have no idea where it came from because of how much you guys fight 😂

Before I met PT, I used to jokingly refer to him as “the Relationship Pastor” with the soft, almost squeaky voice 😄 My mum was already familiar with him because she streamed the global midweek services where he ministered quite often. I remember she looked forward to meeting him in person. At the time, I didn’t get the gist till I met him.

The first time we met was at RBC 2022. I was assigned to serve as Pastor Mike’s protocol that year, so I was seated close to PT and PO (Lady O then). She was heavy then, and one thing that caught my attention was how PT would glance over at her probably to make sure she was okay at every 45 second mark (permit me to exaggerate a little 😂) It was such a simple gesture, but it spoke volumes.

After each day’s final session, while everyone else gathered in their different circles, you’d almost always find PT and his boo standing off to the side, hands interlocked, completely present with each other. It’s hard to explain, but it was one of the cutest things I had seen then. I instantly admired them.

On the last day I think, I noticed he was carrying a lot of bags, so I walked over, introduced myself, we exchanged pleasantries, and I offered to help him with the bags. Little did we know (or maybe it was just me that didn’t know) that just a few months later, he would be moving to Port Harcourt as our Resident Pastor, and I’d be serving closely with him as his Protocol.

Fast forward to now.

To me, you’ve long outgrown the title of “the Relationship Pastor.” You’re now my Pastor, the Kingmentor (yes, I’m a king in the making, in case anyone was wondering 😊 they call me Honourable for now 😂), and the shepherd over all 3k+ of us at @cci

Working with you has been an honour. You’re one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. I remember how you used to ask “Lari how is your heart?” whenever you were going to ask about my love life 😂 One of the things I appreciate most about you is your willingness to be vulnerable. The personal stories you share during services, sometimes deeply intimate, sometimes embarrassingly funny. Many people laugh or receive the lesson, but may never fully get how much it takes to share them so openly.

I walked into the Dakingari NYSC Orientation Camp in October 2016 thoroughly annoyed.

My plug had disappointed me after promising to get me posted to Lagos. Instead, I found myself on a journey to Dakingari, Suru LGA, Kebbi State. To make matters worse, nobody seemed to know how long the trip would take, not even the driver, because he neither spoke nor understood English.

11 hours later (Abuja to Kebbi), we finally arrived.

The very first thing I noticed when I stepped into camp was this girl with purple abi was it grey coloured braids Naturally, my first thought was, “Who is this clown?” 😂 little did I know I was silently roasting someone who would become one of the dearest people in my life.

The backstory is both our dads had separately told us we had a cousin in the same camp but considering how ridiculously large our family is, we both couldn’t be bothered to look for each other. 😂

A few days into camp, fate decided to intervene. We bumped into each other by chance, started talking, and in less than ten sentences I realised she was “that cousin”. From that day till now, we’ve shared an inseparable bond. I gained the extra sister I never knew I needed.

Watching you grow over the years as a woman and as a professional has been such a joy. I’m incredibly proud of everything you’ve become.
