October 9th, 2019. Two whole years.

around midnight on this day two years ago, i was praying harder than i have ever prayed before. i was recovering from my breast biopsy that was done the week before and i was preparing to get my results this afternoon. that was the longest and most anxious week of my life. i kept telling myself that there’s no way i had breast cancer but i also had a gut feeling that i did. i remember texting @mckenziecraig to plan @emmymelchior_pradat bridal shower and saying “i’ll be able to focus more on this when i find out that i don’t have cancer”. i left work on my lunch break on this day for my results and told them i would be right back. little did i know that i wouldn’t be back for five weeks.

two whole years since i heard the words, “i’m sorry but it is breast cancer”. two years since @missteeland fell out of the chair in that room and hit the ground. two years since i thought my world turned upside down. i honestly thought my life was over. i don’t think we even spoke. we were both just crying and the doctor left the room to give us a minute. it only took me about 10 minutes to get it together and as soon as he walked back in, i asked him what the first step was and i was ready to fight. these pictures were taken after my double mastectomy on october 15th.

i prayed for no cancer and that’s not what i got. God heard my prayers, but His plan was so much bigger. He gave me a new perspective on life. He showed me how strong i am. He showed me who my true family and friends are. He has allowed me to be a light for other young women battling this disease and i wouldn’t trade that for the world. This is my mom. She’s my best friend and literally my rock. She’s the one person I wouldn’t have made it through cancer without and cannot live without. She’s also the strongest person I know. She watched her mother and daughter battle cancer at the same time. She lost her mother to it after a long, tough battle and still kept a smile on her face. She’s now unfortunately battling it herself… yes you read that correctly. Something I NEVER thought I’d be saying. Two months before she planned to have a double mastectomy for preventative reasons… cancer showed up. She’s one of the healthiest and most active people I know, but cancer. does. not. care. We’re all negative for the BRCA gene. Thankfully, she caught it early because she was diligent with her self-breast exams and tests. She told me that I saved her life because I encouraged her to be diligent and I will forever be thankful for that. That may just be the reason I was chosen to fight this battle before her. I say all of this to ask everyone to please pray for my momma and to also do us a favor by CHECKING. YOUR. BREASTS!!! Y’all are probably tired of hearing it from me but if this doesn’t encourage you, I’m not sure what will. October is so much more than just wearing the color pink. It’s about awareness and education for a disease that is way too common. God’s not done with us and once again, I can’t wait to watch you crush this thing and become stronger than you ever thought possible and be more of a light to other women than you already are. I love you more and I’m already so incredibly proud of you!!! 💪🏼💖 #teamtee #cancersucks #breastcancerawareness by @britttlanddd

Some stories remind us why awareness matters at every age.

Queen Brittany was just 24 years old when a lump she found completely by accident changed the course of her life.

Too often, young women are told they’re too young to worry about breast cancer. Too often, symptoms are dismissed. Too often, self-advocacy becomes a necessity.

Her story is a reminder to know your body, trust yourself, and speak up when something doesn’t feel right.

Read her story below. 👇🏽

💗

“I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Positive Breast Cancer in 2019 at the age of 24.

I wasn’t doing self-breast exams because I thought I was too young and that breast cancer wasn’t something I needed to worry about yet. I found my lump completely by accident while laying on the couch and adjusting my shirt.

I was initially dismissed by doctors because of my age, but they wanted to keep an eye on it and asked me to come back in three months. That three month follow up changed the rest of my life.

Finding my lump saved my life. It’s why I encourage women of all ages to know their bodies and pay attention to any changes. You’re never too young to advocate for yourself.”

Thank you, Queen Brittany, for sharing your story and reminding us that knowing your body matters.

Feel it on the first.

Check on your Queens. 👑

Six years ago today, my world was turned upside down with an aggressive breast cancer diagnosis. At 24, I thought my story was just beginning, and suddenly, it felt like everything was shattered into pieces I didn’t know how to put back together.

These photos represent Kintsugi: the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Instead of hiding the cracks, it highlights them, turning them into something even more beautiful. For me, those cracks are my scars. They’re proof of what I’ve been through and how I’ve healed.

Every scar, every hard day, every piece of myself I thought I lost… has been pieced back together in a way that makes me stronger, more grateful, and more resilient than I ever imagined. I carry them proudly because they tell the story of survival, growth, and hope.

Being diagnosed during breast cancer awareness month was HARD. It’s made to look pretty and pink when that’s quite literally never the reality, which is why I’m sharing these photos. To show the truth and to remind all of my fellow thrivers that scars are not something to hide… they are proof that we endured, we healed, and we rose. ✨ by @britttlanddd

👑✨BREASTREST RETREAT #13✨👑

One week ago, we gathered nine incredible young breast cancer survivors from across the country for our 13th BreastRest Retreat. Their journeys were each uniquely challenging, but what united them was not just a diagnosis, but a deep desire to heal, grow, and reclaim themselves.

Most importantly, they were reminded of their truth that can get lost in survivorship at times. Our team loved on these beautiful women and showed them their worthiness and value.

Over three transformative days, we shared space in vulnerability and in power. Together we:
🧠 Participated in mental health workshops led by survivors and therapists
🎨 Created healing through art therapy
🧘‍♀️ Practiced yoga and received nourishing body treatments
👑 Celebrated ourselves, our scars, our stories, our strength

And we didn’t do it to become someone new. We did it to remember that we are not broken. We are healing. We are becoming. We are growing into a new version of whole.

This retreat reminded us that survivorship is not just about surviving, it’s about living, feeling, and connecting. It’s about community, compassion, and crowning ourselves again and again.

To our newest Boobie Queens: thank you for being brave and trusting us with your truth. 💖

We’re officially one week away from @youngsurvivalcoalition and while I’m so excited, my heart is also broken because today marks four months without our favorite boobie queen. We were gonna fly together from New Orleans, room together and celebrate your birthday there. You were so excited to show me the ropes for my first summit and it just doesn’t seem fair that you’re not here. Ironically, I’ll be rooming with another fellow boobie queen who will also be celebrating her birthday that weekend and I just know that’s you reminding me to continue to live life to the fullest and celebrate those you love.

Every year from now on when someone asks why my Christmas tree is up one month (or two or three) early, I’ll tell them about you and your love for Christmas. I’ll say that life is too short and you should do things that make you happy. I’ll tell them that you said “there are no rules 🎄” (my tree may or may not still be up with mardi gras decorations on it because you also loved a good mardi party)

Being a part of the AYA cancer community is the most rewarding but also the most difficult thing I’ve ever experienced. I’m so thankful to be a boobie queen and that our paths crossed because of it. There’s no way to explain the bonds that we all share, but just know that they’re so special and rare. We were able to throw our girl one last * @liltunechi themed* girls weekend full of all of her favorite things and my heart will cherish that forever!

We love you and miss you every day, @heyitsjerilynn! 👑🪽 #stagefourneedsmore by @britttlanddd
