I’m over the moon to be able to share 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒂𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒏, a film project co-created by the wonderful @india.ayles and @sophie.m.e.i .

India & Sophie’s words:

We’re beyond excited to announce 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒂𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒏, a film project that’s been in development for three years. In 2019 we met the writer Marina Warner who entrusted us with an unpublished ecological essay by her friend, the artist Leonora Carrington. Leonora laments the destruction of the natural world, fifty years on the text emerges into the future that Carrington feared. We need your help to make the essay come to life…

We’ve been granted access to shoot in Carrington’s former home and studio @casacarrington.uam in Mexico City where the film will become part of their permanent collection. We’re delighted The Derek Jarman Lab @jarmanlab are producing the project

Inspired by Leonora’s love of hybridity and ecology, we’re creating anthropomorphic dance, sculptural costume [including crystalised fabrics + translucent claws] + a voiceover of the essay by Marina Warner. We have an amazing team of creatives based in the UK and Mexico celebrating the cross-cultural spirit of Carrington who emigrated to Mexico City

Due to the non-profit nature of the film, which straddles the boundaries of essayistic film making and moving-image artwork, we have launched a kickstarter to fundraise. Your donations will go directly to our team supporting 13 emerging creatives, materials, shoot costs and post-production

We have 30 days to raise our goal and would be BEYOND grateful for your support. We have incredible rewards in return for your generosity including: Leonora’s short stories signed by Marina Warner, author of the afterword [published by @silver.press ] risograph, giclée and linen prints.
