We’re delighted to welcome award-winning actor and director, Josette Bushell-Mingo OBE as our new Chair of the Board! 🌟

Josette joined the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama as Principal and CEO in 2021. She first encountered BYMT at a Leeds Conservatoire and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama event exploring how musical theatre can influence opera. Following this, she was a guest speaker at the BYMT and Arts Council-hosted Represent event in January 2026 at The Other Palace. 🎭

We are thrilled to welcome her to BYMT as such a passionate advocate of musical theatre. We know she shares our belief in the importance of opportunities and access to the arts for all young people, and we are so excited to enter our next phase as a company under her governance.

Josette succeeds Simon Millson OBE, who is stepping down from his role as Chair following a wonderful seven years of service.

Swipe to see what Josette had to say about becoming our new Chair! ➡️

Each year we ask our young performers and musicians from the most recent season to apply to join our Young Company Panel and have their say on all things BYMT! 💡

Giving all our cast a named character is something we’re proud of - but we never said it was easy to remember them all😜
