POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Excited to hold an excerpt from my novella-in-progress Caulbearer in my hands, bound together with the work of so many writers I admire.

Thank you to @subterrain_magazine for publishing it, to my needle-swallowing pal @lakelifemama81 for inspiration, and to my talented workshop friends who helped make this "creepy baby story" even creepier.

Grateful to @torontoartscouncil and @ontarioartscouncil for supporting the writing of this manuscript 🙏🏼 by @brookelockyerwriter

2025 be-witching 🧹

As a kid, I always dressed as a witch for Halloween. I half joke it was the only time, other than when I was writing, this closet goth wasn't masking 🧙🏼‍♀️

Grateful for the opportunity to lead The Witch's Pen workshop for Obsidian Academy this year, and for my coven community (including my macabre readers) 💗

I'm breaking old spells that have kept me asleep to my magic. Ready to cast new ones ✨

We stand and bear witness.

This open letter pairs the names of killed Palestinian journalists with those of Canadian authors. 244 names. 244 acts of remembrance and protests against erasure. Mine appears next to that of Mohamed Al Jaja, a 34-year-old media worker and consultant at Press House-Palestine. He was killed by Israeli forces in a strike on his home in northern Gaza on November 6, 2023, along with his wife and two daughters.

In a 2022 interview with European Endowment for Democracy, Al Jaja stated: "Our lives are not numbers. What we try to do as journalists is to publicize the many stories from Palestine and the suffering to our people."

This campaign is guided by Coast Salish to Palestine, a Palestinian-led group working in solidarity with global Indigenous resistance.

Since these signatures were collected, the number of murdered Palestinian journalists has risen from 244 to 270. by @brookelockyerwriter
