What an incredible two weeks at @Disquiet in Lisbon. It was like a lovely writer's summer camp, two solid weeks of laughs, inspiration, and more than anything, making so many new friends who all care and feel so deeply. And they were all so kind, listening to me go on and on about missing my daughter. Annoying, I know.

I could wax philosophical about what the two weeks meant to me as a person and a writer, mainly about the feeling you get when you realize that you're doing a crazy thing, but that you're not doing it alone (is that just trauma bonding?). I really want to thank the self-proclaimed (and not wrong) "Best Workshop Ever," the incredible instructors who helped me break new ground (shoutout to Anelise Chen and @aliontas), and the many amazing speakers and guests who shared so freely and openly the things they've learned along this writer's life. It'll be a long time before I do something like this again, so I'm thankful to have made so many memories that will last.

(and I got to take my little book baby international and read a little something from it.)

Took a social media phone vacation and saw real human beings.

Loved going to @sip_and_learn_toronto — if you haven’t already gone out, pick one of their upcoming lectures to go to! It was PACKED and such a great atmosphere. @brookelockyerwriter and I found everything we needed on séances and UFOs for our writing 👽🛸.

Nearly got arrested by the park police when checking out the cherry blossoms with Catriona Wright. I was craving skin-on-skin bonding with the cherry trees but turns out touch-induced oxytocin release is NOT ALLOWED. 🌸

It’s not even launch day and already the love is rolling in. Hard to believe we’re here already, and I think we’ll just keep pinching ourselves for a while.

About Brooke Lockyer (She/her):
Brooke Lockyer is a Canadian Witch in Training and the author of Burr, a ‘90s-era Gothic praised as “shadowy, enchanted, and a touch feral” (Toronto Star) and “a love letter to finding magic in the mundane” (The Malahat Review). She holds an MA in English in the Field of Creative Writing from the University of Toronto. Her work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, and the Access Copyright Foundation.

The Obsidian Academy of Esoteric Arts presents its Fall lineup of Witch Experts.

October 7th - Join Amy Lou Taylor, Hedgewitch/Broom Witch, while she takes you along a sweeping journey into the sometimes forgotten but incredibly powerful witch’s tool, the Broom or Besom. We will discuss the origins of the Witches’ Besom, why it became a tool for the Witch, and how it was and still is used. You will also learn about the history of traditional broom making, and the spiritual uses for brooms over cultures and centuries.

As well as being the owner of @taotat Mystic Tea & Brooms and The Museum of Tasseomancy, she is also a Certified Tea Sommelier, Tea Leaf and Card Reader, Broomsquire (maker of brooms), horticulturist, organic gardener, community herbalist, Hedgewitch, Gardnerian HPS (Retired), author and artist. She facilities many programs about Tea and Brooms, some of which she has been teaching for over 25 years.
