I’ve been thinking a lot about what Brooke MT Interiors represents & how I want it to feel. As much as we all love a picture-perfect final shot, so much of what we do happens longgg before that… the decisions, problem-solving & all the behind-the-scenes it truly takes to design an interior. And I realize that’s the part I want to continue sharing more of! Not just the finished spaces, but the real life, work & story behind them.

Before Brooke MT Interiors, I spent 9+ years working at four different design studios… learning the industry, finding my design voice & gaining the confidence to do things a little differently.

So, in January 2023, Brooke MT Interiors was founded. 🤎

What started with referrals, social media inquiries, & a whole lot of figuring-it-out-as-I-went has grown into a design studio where I get to work with special clients who trust my vision & design homes in a way that feels very me.

My approach to design is luxurious and approachable. I love beautiful, high-quality materials, but I also believe a home has to withstand LIFE. Kids. Dogs. Holidays. Spilled drinks. People actually living in the rooms we spend so much time designing.

Because the pretty photos are only a tiny piece of what we do! I get to create the backdrop for people’s lives. The kitchen where they’ll host their first holiday. The dining room where birthdays will be celebrated. The living room where everyone piles in for movie night. The home their kids will remember growing up in 🥹 THAT will forever be one of the greatest honors of my career 🤎

Am I where I want to be? No way! I have a million lofty goals I still want to accomplish. I am just getting started! But I’m also learning to appreciate the PROGRESS…from a 20-year-old design assistant 12 years ago, to founding my own business, opening my design studio & whatever comes next.

Homes & Gardens asked me how many lamps a living room really needs 🤍

Honestly? There’s no magic number.. But I always start with three layers:

- One main overhead chandelier
- One hardwired wall lamp
- At least one table or floor lamp

Then I tuck a lil’ lamp somewhere unexpected… a bookshelf, built-ins, a cozy window nook. Those little pockets of light are what make a room feel lived-in.

For years, every drive down Cherry Street came with the same little ritual: slow down, look over, & announce (to whoever was in the car, whether they asked or not) that if I ever had a studio, it had to be THAT building. 🤍

I can’t tell you how many times I drove past this sweet old place, admiring it from the street. So when it came up for lease, I did NOT play it cool. Calls, voicemails, texts, emails, Instagram DMs… I even had my husband reach out, just to be safe. We were the first ones to inquire, with eight others right behind us. I’m still calling it fate.

Built in 1876, these walls have held North Liberty’s only general store, its post office and (reportedly!) the town’s very first telephone. Now they hold Brooke MT Interiors, and I truly can’t believe I get to call it ours.

This is where I get to grow my business and our family, and where I’ll spend my days creating homes my clients can’t wait to come home to. It’s an honor to be a small part of this building’s story. Swipe through for a little history lesson 🏡 taken in North Liberty, Iowa by @brookemtinteriors

A little glimpse into life at the studio lately. 🤎

Samples everywhere, lots of exciting projects in the works, & Teddy making himself right at home in the middle of it all.

I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed having this little space to call my own 🏠A place to spread everything out, get inspired, meet with clients, and watch all the hundreds of little decisions that go into a project slowly come together.

Of course, most days this table is covered in about 47 different things, I’m bouncing between a million different tasks, and there’s always something new to figure out. 😂

I think that’s one of my favorite parts of having the studio. It’s a space that’s constantly evolving right alongside the projects I’m working on. No two days look quite the same, and I wouldn’t want them to! taken in North Liberty, Iowa by @brookemtinteriors

From floor plan to final install 🤍

Good design doesn’t just happen by accident. Every project we take on is an intentional, detailed process, and each layout, finish and fixture comes from careful planning and lotssss of thoughtful decisions. Swipe through to see how our projects come together, step by step!

From your floor plan, we’ll begin to draw up your space in 3D to see what works & what doesn’t. This is where we can really start to see what we’re working with!

As we build in 3D, we’re making design decisions! Material selection, lighting, plumbing, furnishings, all the things.

We are able to make preliminary visualizations of the space and different options we’ve explored.

After revisions, we’ll make a final rendering of the final selections.

We’ll provide dimensioned elevations for contractors and subcontractors to make sure every detail doesn’t go unnoticed.

We work with contractors and subcontractors to make sure the vision is coming to life!

Lastly, final completion! Includes installation of furnishings and decor. Where the “fun” happens! (It’s really all fun)

Who says the pantry has to be white?!

I’ve always been particularly fond of Mondays.. Something about a fresh week, a full calendar & getting back into the swing of things. Although, I wouldn’t mind spending the morning catching up on emails in this little office!

A little bit of everything from this week! 🤎

Time spent at the design studio, a big project presentation (hundreds and hundreds of decisions coming together!), site visits, projects moving forward, and all the family life in between.

Some weeks feel like a constant back and forth between business owner, interior designer, wife & mama. A whole lot of juggling, figuring it out as I go, and feeling really grateful that I get to do all of it.
