In honor of The Game…

As a board member of the Richland County OSU Alumni Association, I know what a feat Buckeye Bash is, and how it directly impacts our students in terms of generating life changing scholarships. I wanted to help make this year big, so I reached out to my favorite human, Coach Tressel, to help us come make it a success.

I’ve been blessed to get to know Coach over the years and he has provided me opportunities for leadership and guidance and I can’t thank him enough. He and Stan Jefferson stepped in and picked up where Doug Castle left off when we lost him, and they made sure I wasn’t left behind and that my growth and mentorship opportunities didn’t stop with losing Doug. Every day I seek to be more like these men I admire. Jim’s servant leadership style is not just words, but he truly puts it into action with every opportunity. He’s kind, witty, and so intelligent. How blessed am I to have known these men, to be someone they provide opportunity to, and to hear their voices in each other. So many of the choices I make are directly based on the time investments they have poured into me, and I owe them so much. It’ll take a lifetime of servant leadership of my own to repay the lessons I’ve learned from them.

My favorite college memory is Carmen, Ohio after every game with the people who became my chosen family. That stadium became a home. Carmen is so incredibly special to me that I made sure it was the first thing I sang to the boys after they were born. Guess who we get to thank for that tradition? Yep, it’s JT!

This year for the Bash, Judy was able to bring in TBDBITL and I got to have my first Carmen sway with The Senator. I held my tears of joy, believe it or not. :)

It was his words after the 2002 National Championship win that set me on the path to OSU. The way he spoke about the people, the tradition, and the excellence: I wanted it for myself. I’m so thankful to not only call him a friend, but to be someone in return he believes in.

I’m so incredibly proud to be a Buckeye.

Let’s all remember that if it weren’t for two Ohio boys (Woody and Bo): The rivalry wouldn’t be what it is!

Let’s go Bucks! Beat ❌icigan!

We’ve got such a great class this year and so much to be proud of within both of our teen and miss groups.

Madison and Paisley have set such a great example and represent Ohio flawlessly.

This football season looks different than years past- with Plymouth moving to an 8 man league… and you know what? It has been a total blessing. 🙏🏼 Our boys are playing games where they’re in it the whole game and it is so fun to watch competitive, back and forth football. 🏈 And my majorettes are absolutely on fire! With two freshmen and two sophomores- I don’t take it easy on them, and push for collegiate level routines and they not just do them- but they do them beautifully! I’m so very proud of them and am having so much fun with this group of young ladies! 🫶🏼 The bus rides might be a bit longer- but we are living our best fall, that’s for sure! If you haven’t made it to a Big Red game yet this season, you’re missing out! The long rides are worth it. Don’t miss these boys of fall of ours, and mostly, the Plymouth Big Red Majorettes. 😉 ✨❤️ by @brooketini5

Some more Miss America Gratitude for the week… To my Heath and Josh: I am so thankful for your friendship! You two are absolute sunshine (just like our Mallory); and I love being the Barbie between my Ken dolls because you both bring light and love everywhere you go. ☀️ My first year at Miss America, I walked into the director’s meeting a little timid, and found a seat next to Heath- not knowing he would instantly become the yin to my yang in our small bubble of directors. With this friendship, came so many more as they continued to introduce me to fellow state directors and new friends. 💕 I always know that in a crowded room, I have a seat next to the two of you. I know that four years ago, God placed the empty chair in the room next to Heath just. for. me. 🙏🏼 There is something so special about people who always make you feel welcome, and people that love you just as you are. I hope to treat everyone around me just like they do. 🫶🏼 @southerngentsandco by @brooketini5

This one is just for Diana... and all of the gratitude that goes along with everything she does for Team Ohio. 🖤

She is the Raquel to my Barbie, and so much more. I wonder what our teen selves would think of us now!

Diana has been our spray tan artist for a long time, but this year, she became our state titleholder’s hair and makeup artist as well. Anything she takes on- she does 1000%. She is so dedicated to her work and is so big hearted to her clients like she’s known them forever. I’ve never heard her once complain about the long hours in the work- because it’s all part of what she is building.

The late nights setting in a perfect tan for the girls… we’re talking 2am here.

Followed by early mornings (4am wake up calls every day!) to give them a beautiful hair and makeup look for their day as Miss Ohio or Miss Ohio’s Teen at Miss America…

She will sneak in a “nap”… and then is back at it to see what she can do to serve our girls.

She feeds them, loves them, and encourages them at a moment’s notice. She helps them pack up a glam bag for the day and sends them off, and waits for their FaceTime call for touch ups.

She spent nearly a month to serve the USA team and our girls back to back this August- and I know how hard that can be on the mama heart. While I was struggling with homesickness, she comforted me- even though she had been gone working much longer than I had been. That’s how big her heart is.

Thank you will never be enough for all that she does for us. She makes the girls feel beautiful and stage ready- and still takes the time to glam the rest of us when she can. Sharing her energy always and filling everyone’s cup around her. Her work is always beautiful and you can see how she brings the confidence and energy out of the girls with her art.

I thank God for Diana not just for the glam- and not just for taking care of Team Ohio and keeping our girls confident and stage ready- but for truly being a loving member of our family and the best kind of friend any girl could ask for.
