To our community,

We want to address recent discussions on social media regarding the future of Brooklyn Grange and provide some clarity.

Brooklyn Grange is navigating a significant transition, not a closure. Any claims that the farms are closing are false.

After 16 years of farming, Brooklyn Grange is at a turning point: we can no longer operate our leased farms in the same capacity. For many years, the rooftop farms at Brooklyn Navy Yard and Sunset Park have struggled financially. The cost of sustainable food production continues to rise. Seeds, supplies, utilities, fertilizers and living expenses have all increased significantly, while we have only raised the price for our vegetables incrementally. There is only so much we can charge for a bag of arugula or pint of sungold tomatoes, especially when our mission has been to provide affordable produce to the communities we serve.

City skyline, summer vibes, and a rooftop full of good energy 🌿☀️ We had the best time hosting @bignightshop and @makersmark for a night of cocktails, color, and community.

Thinking about your own gathering? Our rooftops are ready when you are. 💚🌷

A once-blank rooftop transformed into a lush urban retreat 🌿

Working closely with the design team at Ashe Leandro and The Carpentry Shop Co., this rooftop garden was designed as a place to unwind or gather for alfresco dining. A layered planting palette, featuring flowering species for spring-through-fall color, textured grasses, and perimeter shrubs, creates privacy and year-round interest. Custom-built benches, planters, storage, and a kitchen area complete the space.

We returned to Brooklyn Grange, setting our table twelve stories up on one of the city's rooftop soil farms. It's not easy moving loads of tables and chairs up a freight elevator onto a rooftop, but the view makes it more than worth it: for a brief period in late summer, the setting sun streams between Manhattan's skyscrapers, straight down the middle of the table.

Chef Lana Lagomarsini joined us in the kitchen, drawing on the traditions of the African diaspora, the American South, and her own New York roots. Fresh off a standout run on Top Chef and ahead of opening her own restaurant, Creola, this summer, Lana brought a menu built around the farm's harvest and a deep sense of heritage to the table. Every course reflected where she comes from and where she's headed next.

Diamond Crystal Salt Co.® joined as a producer for the evening, their kosher salts found their way into nearly every course, from the black lime rim on the opening margarita to the sweet heat finish on the pork rack.

We ❤️ composting! SWIPE 👉 to see where we take your yard waste.

In 2024 we diverted over 21,000 pounds of waste - that’s a lottttt of compost. We kept mountains of organic clippings and plant matter out of the landfill, sending them to be composted and turned into nutrient-rich soil. 🌱 🙌 by @brooklyngrange

Just crossed off a summer bucket list item... Earlier this week, Substack (@substack) hosted its third installment of Mixed Media with a rooftop gathering followed by an intimate, sit-down dinner curated by Lev (@lev.nyc). Set atop Brooklyn Grange (@brooklyngrange), Care of Chan, Daly PR (@daly.nyc), and Substack brought together friends from across industries to slow down and connect. Over a family-style meal crafted from the rooftop farm’s fresh bounty, Substack’s Head of Lifestyle, Carrie Marks, toasted to independent writing and the vibrant community making it happen.

How are you integrating pieces of your story into your wedding day? S + M blended their two cultures with a sake barrel breaking, an incredible spread of cuisine, and music that kept the dance floor moving.

Olivia’s H+MU design is striking in its intentional understatement. Her look centers on ultra-nourished skin that celebrates her features and her freckles, paired perfectly with a sleek, elevated upstyle. A beautiful (and practical!) look for Olivia’s Brooklyn rooftop wedding during peak August heat.

Checking in our neighbor’s plants🌸. It’s almost as if the Penstemon digitalis ‘Onyx and Pearls’ was made for this iconic pink facade.

This 2025 Clinton Hill installation with @tankhouse and @solidobjectives sits mere blocks from our headquarters and we love swinging by to crush on the plants. The inside is just as fun as the outside… multiple green roofs spanning private and shared amenity spaces, plus sweeping views of the downtown skyline.

We’re excited to be stewards of these gardens and watch how they evolve over many seasons. More photos to come! by @brooklyngrange
