i used to call my bike boyfriend every time i got a flat… like immediately. zero hesitation. damsel in distress energy 🚲💔

but not anymore 😌

s/o to all the bike boyfriends & ride-or-dies. we love you… but we don’t actually need you for this one!! also s/o to my @schwalbetires + @orangesealed because i’ve never actually had a flat on this set up only the fake one for this vid 😅

today we’re fixing a flat together!! and yes, it can feel a little intimidating at first, but i promise it gets way less scary once you’ve done it once.
(also this took me way longer than 3 minutes in real life so… appreciate the edit lol)

if you’ve ever avoided riding solo because of the what if i get a flat fear… this is your sign. you’ve got this.

quick rundown of the steps:

fully deflate the tire - open the valve and let all the air out

de-bead the tire using your thumbs

slide the tire lever between the tire and rim to lift the tire off (work it along the rim)

remove the old tube + check what caused the flat (we are not repeating mistakes today!!)

lightly inflate your new tube so it has a little shape

insert the valve, then tuck the tube back into the tire so it’s sitting nicely inside the rim

flip the wheel so the valve is at the bottom, then work the tire back into the rim evenly with your hands (it will get tight near the valve)

when your fingers tap out, use the tire lever to carefully pop the last bit back in

inflate and get rolling

and just like that… you’re back on the road 💅

save this for later, send it to your riding bestie, and go get a little more fearless out there ✨ taken in Boulder, Colorado by @brookmyerrrr

if you wait until you’re ready to start, you’ll never start

in 2023 i was only using my bike to commute when i moved to the UK. next week i’m racing the pro race @lostandfoundbikeride 🤩

a lot of blind confidence went into this arc 🙈 but nothing happened overnight. started without any cool kit, expensive bike or much of a clue. but i rode my bike a lot, learned from people around me and somehow just kept believing in myself ⚡️

i really think self belief is the biggest key to any time i’ve found success!! i wrote a lot of practical advice in this post but alsooo believing in yourself enough to try is step 1 always 🫶 taken in California USA by @brookmyerrrr

How to give your bike a proper wash 🫧🚲 ➡️

A few quick rules I always follow:

• Don’t get soap on your brakes. Most of the time water is enough to clean them, but they do have their own specific brake cleaner if needed.
• My cleaning hack: regular dish soap + water in a spray bottle. I use it as a degreaser on my drivetrain and to clean my frame.
• Wash your bike regularly. Happy components last longer = less money and time spent replacing parts.
• If you run dry lube, don’t forget to re-lube after washing to prevent rust and wear.

You don’t need a bunch of fancy products to wash your bike! It can be done in a shower (been there), or in the back garden; it can be done with dish soap or official “degreaser”. Whatever you do make sure you give your bike some love! I wash my bike ~1x per week or whenever it’s dirty.

Take care of your bike and she’ll take care of you 🤝 taken in Denver, Colorado by @brookmyerrrr

happy october 1 👻🍂 we can’t pretend it’s still summer so here’s what we’re swapping to keep riding!

kit becomes a big puzzle in fall weather but there are some secrets to making it work!!

• i am always turning to transition lenses come the fall, my fave are @albaoptics AF-LENS VZUM F LENS FLM
• arm warmers and base layers mean I don’t need 10 more jerseys just a few layers to keep using my summer jersey
• gilets or vests are included in the layers. i love a vest when it’s cold to start but i know i’ll warm up. just keep the core warm and the rest will follow. i love mine from @i_ris.cc for the giant picket in the back
• so much heat escapes through our feet so keeping the toes warm even if i don’t need leggings or a jacket just keeps me happier and enjoying the hike longer
• i love @wild_rye_ galena gloves for their grips hands and cover for added warmth, same vibe as the socks solution

a few swaps to the set up can keep you motivated despite the turning temps!! here’s what i’m doing to my bike…

• might sound silly but slow bikes are colder weather besties. i’m talking mountain bikes become all terrain bikes. we want enjoyment and time on the bike over fast average speed and freezing rides. plus adding some chunkier tires will help with grip!
• mudguards aren’t cute but way cuter than water shooting up your backside, all i’ll say about that
• i’ve started using @knog lights for some more lumens when days overcast and dark earlier

cold weather nutrition can be confusing, but one thing is for sure you’ve still got to eat and drink. i’m changing flavor and temps to keep getting in the good stuff!!

• using insulated bottles like @drinkbivo bottles to keep water warm and inviting when it’s chilly out
• in my baked goods era, i’m popping a pumpkin spice cookie in the microwave as a post ride snack
• pockets can be full of extra layers in fall months so i like to add my @apidura top tube bag for a secret snack hideout taken in Colorado by @brookmyerrrr

i’ve been using the @corosglobal DURA for 6 months now and i’ve told everyone i know about it!!

i am not one of those people who likes to tinker around with tech so i want something that just works. this little computer is easy to set up so i can see the data, and directions i need while riding. and it lasts forever so i’m not worried about it dying on me.

if you’re on the fence about a computer in general, getting directions on the go has been the most important part of becoming confident to go solo on my rides. the directions are clear on screen, and because the maps use Google Maps data, i’ve found them to be really up to date compared to other computers i’ve used.

i’m super lucky COROS sent me this little guy, but i wouldn’t recommend it to you if i didn’t love it!!

don’t let numbness become normal 🤗 there are loads of fixes and adjustments you can make

biggest thing to pay attention to is how long it lasts, if you can’t shake the numbness after your ride a top notch bike fit should 100% be in your future taken in Boulder, Colorado by @brookmyerrrr

it’s race week!! 🤩 i can’t wait to see who will be crowned the next world champion 💫 dreams are gonna come true

here’s your guide so you don’t get fomo 🌈

and while we’re here, a small moment for @flobikes… the coverage of women’s racing in the US so far has been pretty disappointing.

so no matter where you are, watch, cheer, share, and even ride your bike in honor because women’s racing deserves to be seen, celebrated, and supported. 💖 taken in Montreal, Canada by @brookmyerrrr

an earnestly perfect weekend at @salida76gravel ✨

no lie, i’ve been struggling lately, especially when it comes to the bike. but the girls trip finally made it out of the group chat and it was *exactly* what i needed 🥹

not quite the usual “race mode” vibes i show up with, the main goal was just to enjoy myself. and ohhhh did i ever 🫶

made some new bike besties, laughed a lot, rode bikes, ate good food... what a privilege

big love to my girlies for feeding my soul + genuinely thank you to the folks at shift events for inviting me out. i really, really needed this one 💕 taken in Salida, Colorado by @brookmyerrrr

okay sooooo i may have accidentally made my season finale way more stressful than it needed to be 🫠

six weeks until big sugar and i’m coming off almost a FULL MONTH of barely training after getting sick + feeling pretty burnt out.

which is… not exactly the ideal training plan lol

after my first pro race this summer humbled me in a way i was not emotionally prepared for, i had a few races that went really well, a few that did not, took a little mid-season break, struggled to get back into training, and then got sick. and now i have six weeks to get myself to the finish line of a race i’ve been dreaming about since march.

sooo welcome to:

can i make it to the big sugar finish line?

episode 1: first week back 🚲

this week was mostly about getting moving again, eating enough, remembering that fitness comes back, and trying not to spiral about the fact that i am currently VERY unfit 😂 no idea how this is going to go, but i figured it would be more fun to take you along for the whole thing.
