A little clip from a very early showing of Birthmarked in 2021. I was trying to explain an illustration that I used when talking to the elders during one of my judicial meetings (a meeting to decide or ‘judge’ whether someone should be expelled from the religion). I needed to explain to them why I found it difficult to believe in god but found it easier to believe in Jesus. So, I likened reading about Jesus in the bible was like looking at a painting of a person - you may never have met the person in the painting, but you can believe in them because we can invest emotion and understanding in the image we see - their eyes, their skin, their feelings. But reading about god in the bible is like looking at the pallet that was used to paint the portrait - its so abstract, you don’t feel the same emotions as you do when you look at the painting of a person. This may not quite make sense still, but while I was trying to wiggle my way out of the religion, this illustration really helped me get through one of the judicial meetings I had to attend. So yeah, anyway, just thought I’d pop it on here for documentation sake. Hahah! xx by @brooktate

Without sounding negative… I wonder whether negative numbers might be an unnecessary stumbling block if even the teachers struggle to explain it… I’m presenting at the British Congress of Mathematics Education in October so please email me your thoughts! :) by @brooktate

Showing my little homemade documentary ‘Maths Up the Mountain’ on Wednesday 10th June at the Electric Palace Cinema in Hastings at 7:30 for a tenner :) I’m at a festival at the moment with very little signal so if you want to come email brooktateart@gmail.com and I’ll try and let people know by Monday if there’s a space for them. About 15 tickets left. Sorry it’s not the best booking system (I’m crap at that stuff) but if you are willing to MAYBE come and have a space then just email me :) Sorry it’s not a better system!
