Six years ago, the first kindling of the BROS fire was lit.

Back then - it was known as the "OM Brotherhood", and the flagship event pictured in March 2020 brought together 88 men for 3 hours of breathwork, yoga, men's circle and kai.

Weeks after - global lockdowns stopping us from gathering in person, so we created the space online.

That same year, a rugby team sized group of men, showing up for a couple of hours online to listen, share, and hold a willingness to be honest about how life was actually going.

We had no idea if it would last past the first month. Since then - the "OM Brotherhood" evolved into @bros.nz - with full moon fires, festival workshops at the likes of @revivefestivalnz @splorefestival @earthbeatfestival NZ Spirit @sauna_fest and more.

Youth immersions. Leadership trainings. Monthly Local Fires now burning in towns across Aotearoa.

33 men on the land at @mangaroafarms each April for the Masculine Vitality Experience.

And through all of it, running every month for the last 2 years at Whiro / new moon, the online circle.

Consistency - the benefits and community have compounded, from turning up. Again. And again.

Some nights 30 men. Some nights 10. We ran it anyway.

Six years of that adds up to hundreds, if not thousands of men who have sat in these circles or come to a BROS workshop and found out they weren't the only one carrying the weight.

An update from @john_vissers_boar
Three weeks on:

Sitting in the space between resilience and surrender. The place where the smallest of actions feel huge. Raking the now cold embers off the dead lawns, a reclaiming of what is ours. Removing the roofing iron, all twisted, contorted and spread out all over the place, revealing the insignificance of what once was... Pushing over the last wall standing, as if betraying a loyal friend that had earned their place to stand.

We await the diggers to clear the burnt remains. A timeliness and system belonging to someone else, moving at its own pace...

Finding the baby Buddha, a sign it will all be OK. Seeing a baby broccoli 🥦 growing in a garden scorched to renewal. Gazing into the reflection of the water in the brazier (3 weeks ago boiling from the inferno) seeing the space and the blue skies.

Men's testosterone & sperm counts are at an all time low.

Not because of age - but as a tax of the modern world.

BROS OUT WEST 🌊 The winter solstice was a good one on the west coast. 18 brothers gathered to hike the Comans Track, from Te Ahuahu Road down to Karekare beach.

4 hours of forest, sand, hiking, chilling, laughing, listening and brotherhood. A chance to get off the grid, move the body, and remember what it feels like to walk alongside good men.

We're stoked to be able to provide these experiences in nature - for brothers to come together and connect, be witnessed, and feel heard and respected among men.

It's not often that men have safe spaces to go deeper than beers with the bros and the age-old sports chat.

The Mangaroa Men's Circle brings together brothers in the Greater Wellington region to sit around the fire. To listen, speak, and share honest, real, and authentic conversation about life - as our ancestors have done for thousands of years.

The mission for BROS is to gather more men around more fires. Building a community of men strong of body, and fluent of heart in every major town in Aotearoa & beyond.

Our local men's circles are the entry point.

❤️ Help John & Tracey Recover After Devastating Fire.

Many in our community will be familiar with @john_vissers_boar, an elder, brother and mentor to many, based in Whaingaroa Raglan with
his lovely wife @traceybonnington71

Early this week, they lost their cottage and workshop to a devastating fire (pictured).

Everyone (including pets) are safe, but alongside precious memories, irreplaceable belongings, and an entire cottage, John has lost his tools and a lifetime of work.

The road to rebuilding will be long, challenging, and even with insurance (tbc) - expensive.

Many men in the BROS community have sat around the fire here with John and know this place well. Many people have been impacted by John & Tracey’s work in the local Aotearoa community.

They have both shown up for so many of us. Now it’s our turn.
