I didnt mean to get tearful but its the real emotions im feeling right now. Music is the best way to express myself.
This song is for
For all the pain inflicted
For those attacked
For those innocent people and children traumatised here
For our people being wrongly targeted
For those of us exhausted
For those of us tired who just want to live in peace
For those who just want to see us united
For those who stand in solidarity ... by @brown.siobhan

My heart is filled with hope after seeing yet another huge stand against racism. THANK YOU Belfast and @uarbelfast for organising today’s protest.

This week has been horrific and distressing in so many ways. After feeling unsafe here It was important for me to be at the protest today with my hubby and members of the Soultrane community. The work we do must continue. The support today gave me the lift i needed to keep moving forward.

But what next?

Today’s protest was a powerful show of solidarity, but real change happens when we keep showing up, keep meeting and keep building community together.
That is where Soultrane Festival comes in.

Soultrane exists to bring people together through music, culture and connection. We meet every 1st thursday each month @room2 @winnies cafe on same night as Late Night Art from 7pm. It’s free and it’s a beautiful space to listen to great music, meet new people, chat, relax and simply be together in a welcoming environment.

And if you want to take that support one step further, join us at our annual Soultrane Festival on 19 September mandela hall . Early bird tickets are on sale now. Bring a friend, spread the word and help us show that the solidarity we saw today does not end today.
We mean what we say.

United we stand. We welcome all. We build community together.
This is change. This is something we can all do. One gathering at a time.

Tickets via our website: www.soultranefestival.com
We can’t wait to welcome you.

SOULTRANE SECOND NATURE RESIDENCY

It’s Black History Month, and we are proud to announce two artists performing at our next residency on 5th Nov at Second Nature Hotel.

we have two special milestones. Two different musical journeys. One shared love of creativity, community, storytelling and connection, and a shared love of Soultrane!

Swipe for more info on this FREE EVENT >>>>>>>

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Meet KALI!

Born in Belfast to an Irish and Californian family and raised in the Middle East, Kali’s musical identity is as eclectic as her upbringing. A singer-songwriter with a love for Soul and exploring different genres, she performs a mix of styles while drawing on pop as the foundation for her own original music.

An English graduate with an MA in Literary Studies, Kali took a step back from music to pursue her studies and settle into a new chapter of life with her husband and two dogs.

Returning to the music scene in her hometown of Belfast, Kali is ready to reconnect with her musical roots and our Soultrane residency is the perfect place to begin again!

ALSO JOINING US:

KEMET COLEMAN!

From Kansas City, Missouri, Kemet is a rapper, producer, DJ and creative entrepreneur whose music moves between hip-hop, house and jazz.

Kemet first connected with Belfast through the UNESCO Cities of Music and it’s wonderful to welcome him back as part of our community.
At 9pm, Kemet will give us the first listen to his new album Double Conscious!!

The new album is out on Friday 6 November: house music for the body on one side, hip-hop for the mind on the other, merged by the last song. The night before its release Kemet plays the full record with us at Soultrane for its first listen in Europe then DJs with our legendary BBC presenter Gemma Bradley till midnight.

So you’re getting a first taste of Kali live and Kemet’s first European listen of his new album with us at Soultrane.

Are you excited to see Kali and Kemet?
Are we gonna see you there n Nov 5th?

Let us know in the comments!!!

Yes, that’s what Soultrane is all about! Bringing opportunities for our community together to connect and bringing new and wonderful experiences to Belfast cultural scene for taken in Belfast City Centre by @brown.siobhan

Black History Month Artist Spotlight: Dana Masters @danamastersmusic

At Soultrane, we’re proud to celebrate artists who enrich the soul, jazz and blues landscape across Northern Ireland. Dana Masters is one of those artists, right on our doorstep.
A singer, songwriter and storyteller whose roots stretch from the American South to Ireland, Dana brings a unique blend of jazz, soul, funk and R&B to every performance. Her powerful voice and authentic artistry have made her a respected and much-loved figure within the local music community.
Having shared the stage with Soultrane’s Siobhán Brown during last year’s Ottilie Patterson Tribute at The MAC Belfast, Dana represents the kind of creative connection, and cultural exchange that keeps Belfast’s soul scene thriving.
This Black History Month, we celebrate Dana Masters and the invaluable contribution Black artists continue to make to Northern Ireland’s cultural life.
A seasoned performer, Dana has sung for Pope John Paul II, President and Secretary Clinton, and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. She has also presented the acclaimed BBC documentary My Name Is Ottilie and spent seven years touring as a featured vocalist with the legendary #vanmorrison

THE STORY DIDN’T STOP THERE…

Black History Month isn’t just about the past. Black music is still evolving, breaking boundaries and making history right now.

At Soultrane, we’re on a mission to help create that future. As the first soul music festival of its kind on the island of Ireland, we’re building a movement that celebrates Music of Black Origin, brings people together and creates space for soul music and its incredible artists to thrive.

Over the years, we’ve welcomed phenomenal headliners, from @omar_lyefook , whose timeless classic There’s Nothing Like This has touched generations, to @iamterriwalker, the acclaimed R&B and soul singer-songwriter and former MOBO and Mercury Prize nominee.

But the story doesn’t stop with our headliners. It lives in the artists, musicians and communities shaping the sound of soul today.

This Black History Month, we’re celebrating Soultrane’s very own Queen of Soul, @manukahunney (@brown.siobhan ).

Since arriving in Northern Ireland in 1992, Siobhan has championed Music of Black Origin, creating space for soul, jazz and gospel in a landscape where these genres have often been underrepresented.

As founder and director of Soultrane Festival, frontwoman of Manukahunney and presenter of The Siobhan Brown Soul Show on BBC Radio Ulster, she continues to use music to connect communities, celebrate Black artistry and inspire change.

In 2024 and 2025, she brought Ireland’s first soul festival to life, showcasing internationally acclaimed artists alongside talent from across the island, the UK and the USA, while celebrating Black creatives and businesses.

Her achievements include becoming the first Black woman from Northern Ireland invited to celebrate Black History Month at 10 Downing Street in 2024.

From the pioneers who laid the foundations to the artists creating what comes next, Black music continues to shape our culture, our communities and our future.

At Soultrane, we’re proud to be part of that story.

The history is behind us.
The music is with us.
The future is ours to create.

I’m the living proof, that what is meant for YOU…… WILL NEVER PASS YOU!!!

I’m only ever outside because I’m meant, to be outside. Even when, it doesn’t make sense to the outside world. Which is something I learned and understood, the moment I turned my dreams into a career. That I manifested and nurtured by showing up for myself. Whenever I stopped seeing myself.

My own journey, began the moment I started listening to and seeing myself. When those I used to listen to, stopped listening to and seeing themselves.

That is why my interviews and conversations recently, are starting to resonate and connect with people. Who have never heard of me but have been exposed to me, via those who have been or are inspired by my story.

I’m proud and excited to be outside because my reflections and inspirations are using me correctly! Nothing by force only by choice! God’s plan is bigger than ALL OF US!!!
This thread, is a reminder to everyone, who has forgotten who has been and is STILL DOING THE WORK!
🥰❤️🙏🏾

Ps. The 1st, slide is the moment I mentioned on @theemptypodcast, regarding our influence and impact on the world. When we are involved with the process!
Slides 3 & 4, the last time @sirvennom played and reminded everyone of it, 2 years ago at @themeltingpotlivetw! Who is my featured special guest DJ again for this month!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: What is it all about?

Black History Month is a time to share, celebrate and understand the history, culture and contributions of Black people; histories that have often been overlooked or distorted.

Its roots go back to the United States, where historian Carter G. Woodson launched the first Black History Week in Feb 1926. His mission was to bring Black history into education and recognise the achievements of Black people. In 1976, the observance officially became Black History Month in the US.

It wasn’t until 1987, introduced by Ghanaian-born Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, it was created to challenge racism and celebrate Black history and contribution in the UK. October was chosen partly because of its significance within African communities and the start of the school year.

In Ireland, Black History Month began in Cork in 2010, organised by Zephrynus Okechi Ikeh, before expanding nationwide. Today, October provides a space to recognise the history, culture and achievements of African, African-Irish and wider Black communities.

And at Soultrane, we believe one of the most powerful ways to understand Black history is through the MUSIC.

At its roots is GOSPEL; music shaped by faith, and community; a foundation for many of the sounds that followed, influencing blues, soul, jazz, R&B and much of the music we celebrate today.

That history is alive here in Belfast.

@angelaifonlaja has been part of the Soultrane story since our very first festival in 2024, performing at the original Soultrane 1.0 launch and returning for Gospel & Glory in 2025 as part of the Sound of Belfast Festival.

@crystaldawnmusic has also been with us since Soultrane 1.0 in 2024, providing vocals across several events before taking centre stage with her own performances at our Soultrane residency evenings at Second Nature.

Two Belfast voices. Two artists carrying forward a musical tradition rooted in Black history, culture and community.

This Black History Month, we’re not just looking back.

We’re celebrating the history that shaped the music and the artists keeping that music alive today.

TOMORROW, 7pm, we are back at our monthly residency down at Second Nature (formerly Room 2 Hometel) on Queen’s Street, Belfast. We do this the FIRST Thursday of every month, so be sure to come down and check us out!

THIS WEEK: We have a quiz lined up for you, and of course, it is also a bar-restaurant, so help yourself to food and drink (try our official Soultrane branded cocktail! It’s a thing and it’s delicious!)

LIVE SOUL MUSIC is non-negotiable as always!
So to help us keep our soul vibes going and help us celebrate BLACK HISTORY MONTH we will have our own Dj Dee La Soul bringing the heat, and a live performance from the very talented Levi Moore.

We have our die-hard regulars down there on these first Thursdays of every month- but if you’ve NEVER been to a Soultrane night, please come along, check us out, get involved with the community, network with us and what we do, and don’t be afraid to have a boogie!

Looking forward to seeing you there. It’s going to be a VIBE. taken in Winnie's Café & Bar - Belfast by @brown.siobhan
