Our hearts are heavy. 🕯️

As an IPC family, we know that when one part of our community hurts, we all carry the weight. To the parents, educators, and students in our network navigating this tragedy: you are not alone.

In moments like these, our community must be a sanctuary. We invite you to lead with radical empathy. Reach out to a fellow alum, check in on our students, staff, faculty and extend grace to one another.

As we mark 25 years of IPC, our promise remains clear: to protect and champion our future. We must give ourselves time to grieve.

And we must demand better as we continue the work of building a world worthy of those who come after us.

Holding you all in peace and solidarity. 🤎✨

The University has established a Student Emergency Support Fund to provide immediate assistance. https://go.brown.edu/StudentEmergencySupportFund

Brown’s Undergraduate Council of Students (UCS) compiled this mutual aid form to connect folks from across the community. If you are either offering or are in need of a ride, food, place to stay, or something else entirely, please fill it out and spread it around.

Educators of all walks increasingly endeavor to examine the ways in which antiBlackness permeates endless facets of society; Justin Coles, Phd, (@justinacolesphd) pinpoints how this corrosive facet of our lives often takes root within academic spaces. Going beyond simply locating this phenomenon, he delivers valuable propositions regarding the work teachers can do to codify equitable learning environments. Consider gifting this resource to the educators in your life.

Jill Rucker Simmons (@jillruckersimmonsartworks) utilizes bold digital manipulations of color and composition to render her photographs symbolically in exceedance of their original subjects; what’s more, she’s evolved the range of media she prints these images on beyond traditional posters to giftables like tees and mugs, perfectly timed for the giving season.

Blending painting, collage, and the uniquely sculptural craft of kitemaking, Lydia Boddie-Rice (@boddierice) utilizes a fine art language all her own to tell the richest and most deeply resonant of tales. Her works consider race, culture, gender, life, and love...forging a capacity to quite literally take flight. In addition to offering original works on her site, Boddie-Rice can also be booked to speak about her creative practice.
