At market, the work is shown against a pallet drawn from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands – white houses, black, volcanic rock and a sharp green reading against both. The result is a collection built to place effortlessly, in a deliberate range of scale that gives designers room to work in homes of any proportion.

In an age of extraordinary technology, nothing compares to the human skills behind true craftsmanship.

This table was designed and handcrafted for a wonderful client in Highland Park, Chicago. From the first conceptual drawings through construction, I believed in the piece—but seeing it completed and finally at home in its intended environment surpassed the original vision.

The proportions, craftsmanship and setting came together beautifully. It’s a reminder that a drawing can begin an idea, but it is the hands of extraordinary artisans that ultimately bring it to life.

The Merchandise Mart today — surrounded by incredible designers, extraordinary interiors, and endless inspiration. A wonderful experience seeing fabrics, textures, and materials applied in so many imaginative ways. High in the hills outside Kyoto, we immersed ourselves in the extraordinary world of Japanese indigo dyeing — experiencing firsthand the centuries-old techniques, patience and artistry behind every piece.

For us at Sourcing Africa, these experiences are about so much more than simply discovering beautiful things. As we develop new boutique processes and artisan collaborations in South Africa, Japan gives us another perspective on how tradition, craftsmanship and contemporary design can come together.

This is what our journeys are really about: taking our designers beyond the finished object and into the hands, workshops and stories of the people who make them.

Walking through this extraordinary home with Bruce was such a special experience. To witness a vision he has thoughtfully conceived, engineered and refined over the past two years finally coming to life was both humbling and inspiring.

I feel incredibly proud to have played a small part in the journey by creating bespoke pieces for his client. Seeing how those custom elements blended so seamlessly with the architecture, fabrics, textures, wall coverings, artwork, chandeliers and furnishings was a wonderful reminder that truly exceptional design is about the harmony of every detail. Together, they create the soul of a home.

We are exploring the concept of creating more than just a headboard. Instead, we want to design an architectural wall feature that conceals a hidden Murphy bed while remaining a beautiful focal point when the bed is closed. The objective is to create a piece that sparks curiosity and imagination—a feature that feels like fine furniture or commissioned art rather than a functional necessity.

Great design comes from exploring families of ideas rather than settling for the expected solution. By pushing beyond conventional thinking, we uncover opportunities that transform an ordinary wall into something memorable, surprising, and emotionally engaging.
