Last evening @reggiedarling and I had the pleasure and honor of hosting a lovely group of fellow travelers—members and friends of the @fineobjectssociety, here in the Hudson Valley for their annual retreat—to our house for a reception and talkative exploration. Also lending their support were @antiquesmag and @stairgalleries. Today was Palm Room Sunday at Spencer House for @chronicadomus and me, wrapping up a marvelous week together in London. It had been about twenty-five years since I initially entered this gloriously restored room, and this re-entry was nearly as exciting as that first experience. Off these go to the workshop this week for period-appropriate upholstery in the roll of charcoal horsehair cloth you see there. “These” being a pair of Federal-era Hepplewhite mahogany arm chairs, New York City, circa 1800. Tonight I’ll sleuth again, this time with a magnifying glass, looking for evidence of a nailhead pattern that we might follow—unless we copy the original pattern we reproduced on a very similar pair of side chairs already in our country house living room. taken in Hudson Valley, NY by @bruceshostak

Palace guard dog seems to indicate I mustn’t go outside and bring back yet another (third) massive wet double armload of hydrangeas for the greedy Chinese jars. Therefore this autumn’s twin arrangements will remain a tad more open than usual, which no doubt will please @reggiedarling when he returns home to find them as such. taken in Claverack, New York by @bruceshostak

The panicles of our ‘Limelight’ hydrangeas are so Brobdingnagian this year that the better population of especially tall stalks have flopped over.
