Bruce Silverstein Gallery is pleased to announce Sarah Sense: Land, Line, Blood, Memory, the gallery’s third solo exhibition of work by Chitimacha/Choctaw artist Sarah Sense (b. 1980), who for more than two decades, has been a defining voice in contemporary photography. Comprising of more than twenty new photo-weavings made from the artist’s contemporary landscape photographs, archival documents, historical images, maps, printed bamboo and rice papers, cotton thread, ribbon, and hand-prepared rivercane, the exhibition considers the relationship between Indigenous people and ancestral land and the systems of representation, ownership, and erasure that have attempted to sever that connection. by @brucesilverstein

Twenty-five years ago this spring, Bruce Silverstein Gallery opened its doors. Since then, we have mounted more than 150 exhibitions, taken part in 75 art fairs, and occupied four homes in New York. Through it all, the mission has not changed: to raise awareness of photography's history, to connect living artists to that lineage, and to look for where the medium goes next. taken in Bruce Silverstein Gallery by @brucesilverstein

Frank Paulin, 5th Ave Window Reflection, 1956
A defining American street photographer of the postwar era, Frank Paulin (1926 - 2016) was uncommonly observant, capturing the dynamism of urban life and the human condition through his lens. Known for his abstract, editorial style, Paulin developed his instinctual and inventive eye studying under László Moholy-Nagy, Harry Callahan, and Arthur Siegel at Chicago’s German Bauhaus successor, the Institute of Design, and through legendary art director Alexey Brodovitch’s renowned Design Laboratory classes at the New School in New York City. A chronicler by nature, Paulin produced snapshots of the transitory complexities of mid-century urban spaces. taken in Bruce Silverstein Gallery by @brucesilverstein

As we mark Indigenous Peoples' Day, we commit to remembering the stolen land we call home and honoring the memory of the Indigenous individuals who have suffered violence, exploitation, and loss of life throughout history.
Sarah Sense, Matoaka, Pocahontas, Rebecca, 2026
part of our exhibition Sarah Sense: Land,Line,Blood,Memory
Through Land, Line, Blood, Memory, Sense transforms weaving into an act of reclamation, binding together histories that colonial systems have fragmented and obscured. The resulting compositions are at once deeply personal and broadly political, asserting Indigenous presence not as a remnant of the past, but as a living and evolving force. Land, Line, Blood, Memory asks us to reconsider how history is constructed, who has the authority to tell it, and what becomes possible when memory is carried forward. Through her work, the gallery is transformed into a space where personal memory, ancestral continuity, environmental responsibility, and historical accountability remain active in the present. by @brucesilverstein

Todd Hido, #10759-1221
American photographer Todd Hido is known for his atmospheric images of anonymous houses at night, urban landscapes, neglected interiors, and melancholic characters. His photographs are often described as cinematic, evoking an implicit narrative that allows for the viewer’s interpretation. Often shooting in inclement conditions, sometimes through the windshield of his car, Hido finds the quiet, if unsettling, allure of lonely roads and enduring trees. Mountains shimmer and melt in the rain, while forlorn houses stand blank-faced in the snow. taken in Bruce Silverstein Gallery by @brucesilverstein
