Day two of our Disc Golf vacation kept us in Iowa.

We made the drive to DeWitt to throw Westbrook Park DGC.

Westbrook is an 18 hole course that’s nicely wooded in a mostly exclusive park of the park.
You might encounter some walkers from the path that winds around the park, but it doesn’t really come into play.

The course is mostly flat, which was welcomed after all the elevation from the day before.
There is a creek that comes into play on a couple holes, 5 & 7.
5 having a total carry.
7 to the right.

The course, for our large group took 3 1/2 hours to throw.
I thought this course was solid and challenging.
I really pushed at the end to get back to a par round.

After 3+ hours of throwing our first course, we made a collective decision to try another one.

Prospect Park in Moline Illinois was our second disc golf course for the day.

Prospect Park is a cool and challenging course with some decent distance and a variety of hole lengths, styles, and elevation changes. It is admittedly a course that will be more frustrating for some than others depending on how you can control your shots from elevation and avoid rollaways.

And frustrating it was for our gang.
The elevation change is a major factor here, and you will get your workout in hiking the course.

Having already gotten a workout in elevation changes on the last course, it was a grind for all of us.

The big con here, and frankly a safety issue is it seems just about every multi-use park I play has major issues with walking paths near the disc golf course, unless disc golf has truly been given its own, completely isolated area of the park. Even on isolated courses, parkgoers tend to wander the course as a walking path. When the course plays adjacent to, or even throws over, established walking paths, this is even worse and is something that should be avoided during the design phase at all costs. It is particularly problematic on a course like this with all of the throws from elevation. It is easy to lose control of your shot in the area and cross/land on a walking path you didn’t intend to.

We had many times of just waiting for people.
And those walking paths also factor into out of bounds lines.

It was a grind, and so much so, we decided to limit our disc golf to one course a day after this.

When you’re on a disc golf vacation, you better be throwing disc golf!

The first course we got out and threw was across the river in Rock Island, Illinois.

Longview Park.
An 18 hole course, winding its way pretty much around the whole of the park.

The course has many elevation changes, in where you’re throwing down or up significant hills.
Out of Bounds plays a big part of this course, in roads or paths lining those boundaries.

There was even a hole where we had to throw over a drained “pond” of sorts.

I felt pretty good about my round, keeping bogies in check and putting pretty darn good.

With our large group, it took about 3 hours to complete the round.

I would definitely recommend this course as a must throw.

I followed the lines going South.

For 20 years I’ve been getting together with the guys I grew used with for a disc golf vacation.
We each take turns planning it, and this year my good best bud @trapp311 took the reins.

Davenport Iowa was our destination.
Right on the border with Illinois, and a city hugging the Mississippi River shore.

For me, I pulled out a map and saw Highway 61 runs through Davenport.
Highway 61 is right next to me in Inver Grove Heights, so.
One highway for me to take.

3 States, 1 destination.
Gorgeous drive.

Back in late May, I threw in the KP Spring Classic held at the legendary Kaposia Disc Golf Course.

It was a two round tournament, on two different layouts.
@pk_discgolf set up a wonderful track, that was prime for scoring, but also mixing in the challenging holes of Kaposia.

Rolling up in the morning, I was greeted by a deer roaming around.
That felt good, seeing her.

Getting in some practice tosses and putts to get my blood flowing is always necessary.

My first round was pretty average, throwing 3 bogeys and 3 birdies for a par round.
That was good enough for a tie for first in my MA40 division.

My afternoon round was with some good disc buddies, and we had a pleasant second round together.

After a birdie on a pretty tough hole, and having only 3 left, I did what I probably shouldn’t have.
Look at the scores.

I saw I was up 1.
The fella I was tied with also had three holes left.

I ended up getting a par on my last three holes, while he birdied all three.
I know I pushed my luck.
Feeling that I had to.

I should have just kept on keeping on, but…🤷‍♂️
Second place it is.

GRANDMA GIFT CARD FRIDAY

Another Friday rolled around and Pheona didn’t have to think hard about this choice.

Olive Garden and their Tour of Italy.
Apparently, this meal has been on the kids mind and stomach!

Three of the most popular choices Olive Garden has, all on one plate.
Chicken Parmigiana
Lasagna
Fettuccine Alfredo

And of course, comes with your choice of all you can eat soup OR salad.

This kid did not leave hungry.

A gorgeous October day like today takes me back to a Mid May Sunday afternoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers were in town for a series with the Minnesota Twins.

Games 1 & 2, played on the Friday and Saturday before this were both beautifully played baseball games.
Brewers came out on top of both of those nail biters by a run each.
This Sunday game was an attempt for the sweep.

A yearly tradition is attending a Brewers/Twins matchup with a good best buddy of mine.

Unknown to us, it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle day at the ballpark.
That made things a bit more fun.

We had, by far, the best seats we’ve had a game at this point.
Section 2, Row 4.
Pretty much just past first base.

While the seats didn’t disappoint, neither did the game.
Close throughout, it came down to the Twins having to make a big pitch, with a runner on third and two outs, to Salvatore Frelick to preserve the one run victory.
That big pitch happened, inducing a foul out to the catcher.

Now, it’s playoff time.
With the Brewers having a season for the ages.
Tonight, they could be advancing to the NLCS.

Nail biters seem to be the Brewers MO.
As in this series, Games 1 & 2 were both those.
My hope is that 9th inning foul out turns into something more favorable for the Brewers, and the sweep can be completed.
