Opening day for us up in Derbyshire. Brilliant event put on by Jan for the Peacock fly fishing club. Great to see friends old and new.

Tight lines for the 2026 season, that PB trout is just around the corner

Dry fly season is underway! A lovely Sunday morning session got the dry fly season up and running for @bruntyvw rises no hatches of note but a hand tied olive quill pattern did the damage and tempted a few wild browns. The @thepeacockflyfishingclub section of the Derwent is fishing beautifully at the moment with a number a good wild fish being caught by many of its members, the season ahead is looking very promising!

Had a cracking session yesterday on the @thepeacockflyfishingclub stretch of the Derwent, caught a few fish between us 🎣

We went out with dry fly rods for a few hours, beetle patterns thrown under trees and close to the bank were the way we caught our fish including a new PB for me which I’ll be posting about soon! 🙈🙈

Rainbows have to be one of the most beautiful coloured fish around! A successful trip to fisherwick lakes last week saw this absolute belter fall to a damsel in an action packed 3 hour session which saw 7 fish landed all on streamer tactics!

I recently purchased a new Stillwater rod and I’m so so impressed with it! A ‘budget’ rod but it didn’t feel out of depth at all catching some hard fighting rainbows up to 4lb. A full review of the rod to follow in the next few days.

Last weekend me and David had a few hours on the Derwent going after grayling.

Conditions weren’t brilliant as it was freeeezing cold and starting throwing it down as soon as we made it down to the river 🌧 🌧

We did pretty well catching 7 between us before hyperthermia set in and we had to go warm up!

I fished with a euro nymphing set up with my hand built 10ft 2wt nymphing rod 🎣

We both made our own rods during lock down and it makes it even more special when a fish hits the net 🎣
