When I’m tempted to believe I can’t do something, I’ll look back at this moment.

There is so much wrapped into this finish at the Sonoma Fall Classic. My life has changed dramatically since I first set foot in California wine country. But it remains one of my favorite places in the world, so long as I can share it with @ryannlcarlson. This was a weekend I will cherish for a long time.

Grateful to have a partner in @pathprojects for these adventures. #TeamMNTNTSTD by @brycedcarlson

Earlier this year I traveled to Bell Buckle, TN for an interview with Laz Lake. It was an experience to say the least. I wrote about it for @likethewindmag Issue #50. It’s now out in the world. If you don’t subscribe to Like the Wind, you should! by @brycedcarlson

Pumped to get back to Dry Creek Road. The work is done; I’m as ready as I’ll be. Time to enjoy the taper and the experience of it all. @sonomafallclassic is in two weeks. Let’s go.

“Calling Josh Wade my dark horse pick is probably cheating. He finished third at UTMB last year. If a podium doesn’t get you removed from dark-horse status, I’m not sure what does.
Still, Wade tends to come up a little later in the conversation than I think he should.”

“Wade’s 2026 results give me more reason to buy in.

He finished third at Transgrancanaria behind Albon and Namberger, then won the Eryri 80K in May. He also DNF’d the Lavaredo 80K in June.

The DNF is worth noting, but it doesn’t move me off the pick. Wade has already shown that he understands UTMB specifically. He grew up walking and running in the Lake District, but he has talked about adding flatter running because Chamonix is not Snowdonia.

The technical ground around home has made him strong, but UTMB also rewards the ability to open up between the climbs. He has worked on that part.”

Happy 18 years to us. Still choose you @ryannlcarlson through it all. You are a bright light in this world, and I am so grateful you are mine. by @brycedcarlson

Sometimes the adventure doesn’t include trail running shoes. @pathprojects is still there for it. by @brycedcarlson

Initial testing on the Mount to Coast M1 complete. Will have a full review coming soon on @_subwhatever. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this shoe. Will definitely be a contender for the Sonoma Fall Classic 100 mile this coming October. More to come! by @brycedcarlson

Editors note: we learned after releasing this article that Tom will not be returning to UTMB.

Tom Evans arrives at UTMB as the defending champion, but this year his preparation includes a DNF at Hardrock. Conventional wisdom says that’s a setback. Bryce Carlson isn’t so sure.

Using a baseball concept known as the “productive out,” he explores whether an unfinished race can still move an athlete’s season forward, and why not every DNF should be viewed the same way.

Watching @stoolpresidente One Bite Pizza Reviews has become somewhat of a family tradition on vacation. We’ve had so much fun and so many laughs. Highlight of Vail 2026 was having Drake test his pizza review skills! by @brycedcarlson
