As a newcomer to Canada, the stories I carry didn’t begin at the border.

At the 5th National Black Canadians Summit in Winnipeg, I attended the opening that is grounding me in my journey as collective work to address racism and injustice.

And yeah Yesterday I joined a panel to reflect on the VoiceUp project a platform where Black newcomer and refugee youth can pick up a microphone, learn to tell their stories and decide how they want to be represented.

We’re closing out our look at the Power of Youth morning breakout sessions with Culture, Arts & Narrative Memory. 🎨

This session explores the power of culture, art, and storytelling in shaping identity, preserving memory, and strengthening belonging. Through conversations on creative expression, participants will explore its role as a force for resistance, cultural affirmation, and the reimagining of Black youth narratives.

Stay tuned as we continue highlighting sessions taking place throughout the 5th National Black Canadians Summit.
