Special Post!!!
••◇••
These two are customs painted by none other than @bravedog_customs, the person who designed these horses for Schleich!
I must say, its an incredible feeling to have a model entirely created by one person, from bade to finish!
I was certainly appalled by the price I purchased them for- only 55€ each! And theyre stunning! Grulla is not an easy color to achieve and the finish on these two is just fantastic!
Both of them have the most beautiful eyes, a dorsal stripe, and a bicolor mane. Even though they have the same coat color, theyre both distinctive. The mare has pink nostrils- a very nice flare I dont see too often! The color matching was just perfect. The stallion has two very clean hind feet. His "mask" is also much darker than the mares. I really love how these two turned out!

(My last image I added for fun, since I had WAY too much exposure while taking this picture. She almost didnt show up at all! However, I think its easier to see her facial details this way!)
••◇••

I do have one more grulla from another artist Im excited to introduce. But for now, Im basking in the beauty of these two! 💝💖

Comparison Post!
The two 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭 Satchmo variants...
#82141 (2010)
••◇••
I wasn't really expecting to make this post, but when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade!
I bought a lot of old, beautifully preserved Schleich figurines on eBay, which included these two! Little did I know that I would get both paint variants of Satchmo, of which I was previously unaware of!
Both of these figures were produced in Germany🇩🇪, despite differences in the paint. The most prominent distinction between the two is how the hooves were painted! To be certain of my claims, I also used plenty of reference images besides my available physical figurines- mainly from eBay listings, former retail websites, and other social media users' uploads from various platforms.
For simplicity's sake, going forward we will call the one pictured on the Left, A; & the one on the Right, B.
••◇••
𝔸: This variant has 'overspray' of white on its back hooves. On the inside of the left hind leg, is the mold number '1•' The color and sheen across the coat is duller than on B.

𝔹: This variant does *not* have an overspray of white on the back hooves. Instead, it has a solid layer of tan paint with a very clear border at the coronet. It also has a much warmer, richer brown to the base than on A. On the inside of the hind leg is the mold number '2•'
••◇••
BOTH variants are available as signed figurines by Isabell Werth. Due to lack of available online images and the general rarity of the signed figures, I can't say for certain if one variant or the other exclusively has the silver or gold signature. If you have one of these models, go ahead and send a picture of it to me if you'd like!
••◇••
How to tell a genuine Satchmo from a repaint-
The color of the plastic on all Satchmo figures is medium-to-dark brown, and is generally unpainted/exposed on a majority of the body. The plastic is shiny, exactly like that of other models produced at the time. The eyes and nostrils have a glossy varnish that does not extend over the eyelids or onto the muzzle. The hooves are not varnished, unlike how many artists do with repaints.

Catalogue Number(s): L->R
77768, 77766, 77767, & 77765
The names for these four are unique, there's a different name on the website than there is on the stickers on their bag!
On the website, the name follows as "Legacy of America: [Animal Name] (250th Anniversary Edition)"
The bags are labelled "AM 250th [Animal Name] [Normal Article Number]"
For example "AM 250th Black Bear 14869"
•••◇••
For context, I am an American, so I have some insider lore.

The logo is the official logo of America's 250th Anniversary, which is a bipartisan (meaning both Democrats and Republicans, as we have only a two-party system) initiative to get citizens in the USA to celebrate this year's Independence Day. The official name for the logo is the "United States Semiquincentennial," and, unlike the vast majority of things in this country, is common media. The logo is free to use!
••◇••

NOW, for my personal opinions! Im getting political.

While I like the sentiment behind the figures- the patriotism- and the appreciation for true-blooded American wildlife, America is a burning garbage fire right now. Lets recap on some of its best qualities recently-

The nation is guarding pdfiles and creating distractions, such as pointless wars, staged political attacks (aka "false flags"), and destroying the economy, voting rights, and the freedoms of the American people, to protect said child predators.

We have never been more divided; we have never had a more incompetent, narcissistic President, with plenty of people who are either ignorant to what he's doing or blatantly disregard or even support it.

States are redistricting- gerrymandering to swing elections to favor parties for the upcoming midterm elections in November. Congress is trying to pass the SAVE Act, so millions of Americans, particularly women and people of color, would be unable to vote without appropriate (and often costly) documents that had NEVER, in 250 years, been required to vote before.

While Ive bought the figures, I will not be celebrating this Independence Day. Not while we remain shackled under a fledgling fascist dictator and rampant politcal apathy.

Comparison Post!!!
Cataolgue Number: 13249
Aka "Icelandic Pony Gelding, Darker" (2001)
GERMANY v. CHINA
••◇••
For the duration of the post, Germany is on the left and China is on the right

What is most interesting about these two is that ONE difference in painting makes them completely different colors!

Germany has a duller, darker coat than China's rich brown. China has much more yellow in the mane, tail, and pangare. China also has a dark shaded muzzle, while Germany does not. Germany has black points on the legs, while China's does not.

The black points on the German model actually makes the gelding a silver dapple bay! Why bay and not black? Silver bays usually have a more noticable difference between the points and the chocolate-color coat than silver blacks. And silver bays tend to have a "dirtier" mane, which can be more yellow or more black than the whiter mane on most silver black horses. Silver bays are also more likely to exhibit lower leg pangare! While many sources will tell you that silver bays are more 'coppery,' or red, than silver blacks, the fact is that the coat color on bays can also be just as dark as it is on lighter black silvers!
The stallion in the last picture is a genetically tested silver bay rocky mountain horse (named "Toby's Samson") whose coat is much darker than what many educational sources display of silver bays.
Additionally, silver dapple horses do not always have dapples!

The Chinese model is a flaxen liver chestnut! Why not black silver? Black silvers tend to exhibit very low pangare, if any. This model has pangare up to the carpus and tarsus, making it most likely to be pangare chestnut!
••◇••

Its always interesting to see color differences between models! Have you found the same model that is a completely different color, like these two?!

Aka "Edeka Edition Lamb" (2021)
••◇••
I severely underestimated just how many posts 20 posts is. I still have a handful of the 2021 Edeka models to post and I feel like this has taken forever 😂

Additionally, I believe that this lamb models color is analogous to snowflakes- no two are alike. Between this one and the two 'standard' run models, each one is very obviously a different color, though theyre not supposed to be. With the addition of the 2021 advent calendar lamb, I have a nice gradient of lambs from stark white to coffee brown. Never have I seen a color so inconsistent on a Schleich model!

My figure came with some rubs, so the extra black points here and there aren't painting mistakes but rather wear and tear. Otherwise, this puppy is ORANGE. Its a much deeper colored coat than the standard golden figure. It almost reminds me of a show dog!

Aka "Edeka Edition Sow"
••◇••
I might be biased in my review of this one, because I just love this mold. I think it's the best pig mold out of all the ones Schleich has done over the years! And I think the sheer detail in the physical figurine may hide any defects the Edeka models normally have. For instance, this girl has no shading besides on her head, and she still has depth. The delicate but deeper hairing for this pig made it so that a white wash easily creeps into the hairs and doesn't overpower the color of the plastic. The hooves and dewclaws are so prominent from the rest of the legs that even a sloppy painting still stays within the margins. The only issue I have with this model at all is the fissure down the back and the oddly uniform hairing coming down from it. Otherwise, Id say this is one of the nicer Edeka editions!

Aka "Edeka Edition Simmental Calf" (2021)
••◇••
This is a variant of the 13802 Simmental Calf. Out of all the Edeka Editions I've studied so far, this one is incredibly easy to tell apart from the original. The paint creating the spots is so much darker and also much thinner. Even though the paint and the plastic are much lower quality than you'd normally expect of a Schleich calf, this one is still adorable! She still has nicely painted hooves and soft pink features!

Aka "Edeka Edition Goat" (2021)
••◇••
Considering the notorious quality (lack thereof) of the Edeka models, Im actually surprised with how nice this one is. As with Schleich's recent standard models, this one has no shading. But she also surprises me in that her eyes and dorsal stripe are painted, instead of leaving them the plain brown color of the plastic. What else I found to be nice was that her udder and her horns have very good margins, and weren't painted carelessly. She has very neat and orderly shading on her forehead, muzzle, legs, and the tip of her tail! For being the cheaper, promotional version, she's quite fancy!

The standard run counterpart is No. 13828. The major difference between the models is the standard DOES have body shading, and the black on the forehead trails down to the muzzle on the original. I feel like the most reliable difference without the tags is to look at the goat wattles! Wattles are the little fleshy bumps on the neck of a goat, one on both sides. The wattle is not painted in the edeka edition!

Aka "Edeka Edition Sheep" (2021)
••◇••
I would've done a side-by-side comparison of this Edeka ewe with the original model, but I actually don't have the original 😅 The standard-run model is 13743.

Regardless, it's very easy to tell this imposter from the real deal. The dew claws, the vestigial toes on the back of the fetlock- above and behind the "real" hooves- aren't even painted on this one. The last shearer wasn't great either because the edges of the wool aren't crisp and clean 😂 (In fact, if you look at the very last picture, the wool on her head wasn't fully painted!) Despite not having the original, I believe there is a significant weight difference in this model between the standard as well.

I also lucked out with some painting mistake, as her eye paint got on her eyebrow and is not removeable. I find that especially funny considering the paint to plastic bond in Edeka models is volatile, and I have to work with them exceedingly carefully to not remove any paint.
