Buffalo Street Trees is an initiative to inform and engage residents of the opportunities and benefits of bringing trees to their neighborhoods

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Happy 716 Day, Buffalo! 💚

There's no better way to celebrate our city than by shouting out the people investing in its future.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of partnering with the Youth Guardian Civic Stewardship Program and @councilwomaneverhart in the Masten District, all brought together by our own ambassador @_ron_dixon . These young stewards went door-to-door talking with residents about the trees in their neighborhood.

Block by block, they identified spots for new street trees, documented maintenance concerns, and gathered feedback on what beautification means to the people who live there. Along the way, they built the kind of leadership and communication skills that will serve this city for years to come.

A huge thank you to @councilwomaneverhart for showing what community leadership looks like in action, to every Youth Guardian who knocked on a door yesterday, and to @_ron_dixon for making the connection happen. You all showed us exactly what the 716 is made of.

Swipe to see them in action ➡️

You heard @mayorseanryan — request a tree! 🌳

Last Saturday, we tabled at Better Buffalo Days in Niagara Square, helping people learn how to get a FREE street tree in front of their home and guiding them through the application on the spot. Shoutout to Ambassador @_ron_dixon for keeping the conversations going all day!

Better Buffalo Days is all about taking ownership of our neighborhoods and showing what’s possible when we work together. Trees are a big part of that.

Trees do more for the environment than you think. 🌳

They help clean our air, fight climate change and reduce flooding/sewer overflows, all while making our blocks cooler, calmer, and more beautiful. 🏡

Want a tree in front of your home?
Click the link in our bio or scan the QR code on the last slide to request one.📋

Don’t forget to save this and share with a neighbor or friend who would love more trees on their street. taken in Buffalo, New York by @buffalostreettrees

🌳 Fun Fact Friday! 🌿

Ever noticed how some streets feel cooler and greener than others? A lot of that has to do with tree canopy cover! 🌳

Tree canopy doesn't just make our neighborhoods beautiful. It helps keep our streets cooler, improves air quality, and creates healthier spaces for everyone.

But here's the thing: not every neighborhood in Buffalo enjoys the same amount of tree cover, and we're working to change that! 💚

🍃 Swipe to learn more about canopy cover and why it matters.

Want to help close the gap? Request your FREE street tree today at www.buffalotrees.org 🌱

“The Buffalo Street Trees ambassador program is phenomenal.” 🌳

Meet @this_simonsays , one of our 2026 Tree Ambassadors! Most of us walk past trees every day without thinking about how healthy they are or everything they do for our community. For Simon, the training unpacked all of that.

It also gave him the confidence to talk with his neighbors about why planting thousands of trees across Buffalo matters for everyone.
Ready to dig in? Applications for the 2027 Tree Ambassador cohort are now open.

📍 Apply at buffalotrees.org (link in bio)
🗓️ Deadline: Nov 15

🌸 Some trees hold more than just beauty. They hold memories, stories, and a little bit of family history. 🌳💚

In this Resident Highlight, one Buffalo resident shares the story of a special two-tone cherry blossom tree planted by her mother over 30 years ago. Today, it’s become a neighborhood attraction, bringing people together every spring to admire its beautiful blooms!

It’s a lovely reminder of how one tree can leave a lasting impact for generations. 🌿

“To me, the Buffalo Tree Ambassador program represents community and togetherness.” 🌳
Meet Brittini, one of our 2026 Tree Ambassadors! She found the training educational, hands-on, and easy to follow, and every question she had was answered along the way.
For Brittini, being an ambassador is about neighbors coming together to learn and to bring more trees to Buffalo’s neighborhoods.
Want to be part of it? Applications for the 2027 Tree Ambassador cohort are now open.

Wondering what Tree Ambassador training is like? 🌳
Here’s what our 2026 ambassadors got up to across four sessions:

1️⃣ Got introduced to the program, had their questions answered by the City, and got to know each other in breakout groups

2️⃣ Took a deep dive into the life of trees, then wrapped up with a tree trivia showdown

3️⃣ Headed out to Chestnut Ridge to learn hands-on how trees are planted and cared for

4️⃣ Recapped everything, got a crash course in connecting with the community, and graduated with certificates and tote bags packed with outreach materials 🎓

Your turn! Applications for the 2027 Tree Ambassador cohort are now open.

Masten Park has a proud history rooted in Buffalo’s African American heritage, and over 3,000 open tree spots ready to help write its next chapter. Filling every one would mean:

❄️ Cooler streets, like running 16,000 ACs on a hot summer day
💨 2,500 lbs of air pollutants filtered every year
💡 About $160,000 in energy savings, roughly $1,000 per household over 20 years
🏡 An estimated $156,000 boost in property values

Live in Masten Park? Request a FREE street tree for the front of your home at buffalotrees.org (link in bio) 🌱

Let’s grow a greener Buffalo, one tree at a time. 💚

It's #MythBustingMonday! 🌳

You've probably seen it: mulch piled high around a tree like a little volcano. 🌋 It looks cozy for winter, but it's doing more harm than good. Mulch against the trunk traps moisture, invites rot and pests, and can weaken your tree over time.

The fix is easy: spread mulch in a flat ring 2–3 inches deep and pull it back a few inches from the trunk. Think donut, not volcano. 🍩

Help your street tree make it through a Buffalo winter. 💚
