IT’S OUT! My new album ADULT CHILD is in the world today! I am so proud to be here, to have made this work. All throughout this release cycle, I’ve said that this is a record about identity, estrangement, and trying to outrun one’s lineage—my lineage. And it is. But it’s also a record about being a person, a record I made with friends, that I crafted out of melodies which floated in and out of my head, bright yellow tempera paint, and sentiments I couldn’t pin down anywhere but in song. It was handmade, and now I’m hand-delivering it to you. I hope you love it! My deepest gratitude to my collaborators and everyone who had a hand in making this project what it is! Kind of a weird tour, to be honest. While there were some truly great shows, musical experiences, and human connections, there was other shit, too. Injuries, confusing dynamics, rude comments, absence of camaraderie where it usually exists, and lack of clarification / support when I asked for it. Grateful to the people who came out and were present to the music, as that’s the place where I feel most heard in this life. And as for the rest? I’m thinking on it. Also, it was difficult to be touring during so many cultural reckonings (all with their own accompanying apathies and insensitivities, of course). I’m a survivor. Lonely time. Appalling time. Angering time. Meanwhile, I know women are expected to deliver the Good News under all circumstances, to present solutions even under duress, but I’m not playing along. Things are hard. If people want Good News, they should contribute to a culture where Good News is possible. Here are some brief bright spots on what was easily the most strained tour of 2026 for me. The guitars of my solo project, plus the one that got away! Some additional notes: If you’ve seen me play my solo work in recent years, you’ve seen me play KING. She is the primary guitar on ADULT CHILD. I also use her a lot in my other project, @friendshipcommanders. MAYA is newer to me, but aside from being on ADULT CHILD, I also played her on the EA Sports WTP theme. Sometimes I think about putting Lollars in her. BOUNDARY was the primary guitar on my third album, CONVERSATIONS WITH MY OTHER VOICE. Also a figure in FC history, and was my gateway Gibson. DIGNITY rarely gets played anymore, but I played her for a long time. She bridged the gap between my first band and my solo work, was played in both. She feels like a toy in my hands now, as her neck length is only 22.5 inches! A very cool instrument, though. Big fan of the offsets. I definitely played some other guitars on one-off recordings here and there, including some that I borrowed from Robin Finck during the final sessions for the doomed album I made with Joss. NIN were rehearsing down the street from the studio I was holed up in, and Robin had his whole arsenal over there, which was immensely helpful to me at the time! The story of the original Taylor is rough, and I almost never tell it. Sticks and stones and all that, but it turns out that if you really want to hurt me, taking a primary guitar from me will do the trick. You will absolutely lose me as a result, though. Some of the guitars I’ve played in @friendshipcommanders over the years! Saw @jerryroe’s post about his FC drums yesterday and it made me want to travel back through this evolution of tones. Wild that it started with P-90s, but it did! Some notes: There are one or two other guitars that have made it onto recordings over the years, like one owned by the late Chris Feinstein that I played on a cover of “SWAN DIVE” by his band Iodine, but this is the bulk of what I’ve played, most of which, are mine. BOUNDARY the SG still gets played here and there in my solo work and on sessions for other projects. Played her for an EA game theme in recent years. A stunning guitar, best neck ever. Who here remembers her in the FC context? MARIAH and CHRISTINE are typically in the FC tuning I favor (FFCCCF). NORA and MIRIAM are usually tuned to CGCGBE. KING and CARRIE handle my standard tuning and Drop D songs. I have written a huge number of songs with KING. She is also my most recorded guitar. The Les Paul doesn’t have Lollars in it anymore but still rips! It’s unusual for me to play guitars that aren’t mine on albums, but it was the right guitar for some of MASS and I’m so grateful to have added to its long history. I’m a big fan of Norlin era Gibsons, and looking for a Les Paul of my own is what sent me down the solid body 335 rabbit hole, and now that’s where I live. Pics / contexts! 1. ::: A LIST ::: Every time one of my projects tours through Pittsburgh, a boundary that I set years ago threatens to be breached. It’s not a casual boundary. It’s the kind that says, for the rest of our lives, you stay over there. And they do, but there’s always an undercurrent of possibility that something else will occur. And every time, I ride it out quietly until the end of the show. Boundaries get a bad rap in some circles. You hear a lot about being the bigger person, about how holding onto negativity is unhealthy, about how forgiveness will set you free. Maybe I’m huge. Maybe “no” isn’t negative, but rather, the preservation of what’s positive. Maybe all is forgiven, and this is how I stay free. The recent @friendshipcommanders tour wrapped in Pittsburgh the other night. This footage is from the next morning, the Warhol Screen Test. The audio is the final track from my recent solo album, ADULT CHILD. The two seemed like they wanted to be friends, and now they are. Now they’re something new. Freedom and its parameters are individually defined, the demarcations therein are personal. About to rip 8 shows with this new-to-me Gibson Nighthawk! Though she bears a striking resemblance to my OG ‘95 Special, KING, she is her own beast. This is CARRIE, a ‘97 Special I bought to take over to Europe in May and June, and which I’m now taking on @friendshipcommanders + @legalizecrop tour! Fun fact: I bought her from a member of Crop, had some work done to make her mine, and now she’s part of the arsenal. Playing heavier strings on her than I typically do on my Nighthawks, too. Trying stuff out! Tour kicks off tonight 8/7 at Green Lantern in Lexington, KY! This was fun! When I perform LOSING MY COURAGE live these days, it’s just me singing the lead a cappella. Fun to revisit the harmonies (or something thereabouts) from the album version! Also realized that I’ve grown accustomed to pushing and pulling with the time instead of being on any sort of grid, which is one thing about performing alone that I enjoy. Just do whatever feels correct in the moment. Anyway, these vox were sung into an SM7 and I’m using the @capigear Heider H2 preamp! by @buickaudra

Here are my thoughts on AI, and how I don’t (and will never) know her. Currently in the middle of writing two albums and possibly my third book (yes that’s what I said) and I’m up to my eyeballs in the GIFT that is creative problem-solving. I don’t leave home without it. Anyway, you can trust that everything I put into the world, I made, either alone or with other people. It’s this way or no way for me.
