Pulling a submarine out of dry dock is no easy feat. It takes an incredibly meticulous system that must be executed perfectly and a team of people who know exactly what they're doing.

Here's a play-by-play: mooring and tug lines are attached to the submarine, the dock is flooded until the water level matches the sea outside, and the submarine floats free of the blocks while still tethered to those lines. The massive gates are then removed, and tugboats guide the submarine out through the opening—line handlers keeping it controlled and centered the whole way—until it's clear of the dock and released into open water.

This allows the submarine to safely return to operational status after critical maintenance, repair, and hull inspection work is complete. by @buildsubmarines
