The time is queer ya’ll —applications are open for all 3 of our sewing and underwear making workshops!

Instead of sign ups for workshops we do applications first, which acts as a bit of a vetting process and helps us prioritize certain identities.

All workshops are at Indie Square Coworking, Murray, Utah

“The fashion industry often doesn’t consider the bodies of queer and trans people, and these Sewing 101 and Underwear Making Workshops empower our community with the skills to meet that need themselves,” said Mel Martinez with @aquaunderwear. “Project Rainbow’s grant was instrumental in helping us make these classes more accessible for more people.”

Project Rainbow was proud to support Aqua Underwear and @burningsissyvalley in 2025, and we are excited to fund even more community-driven events in Utah in 2026! Selena appreciation post :) Been wanting to make this for a while —and what better week than Trans Awareness Week!

We’ve been co-instructors for the Undie Making Workshops for the last couple of years and I’m so grateful they keep agreeing to teach together.

Thanks for being such a great sewist, instructor, helper, and heckler Selena!

Selena Pham (they/them), is a queer Asian amateur needle worker, college student, and co-organizer with Burning Sissy Valley, a community building org for QTPOC in Utah.

We’re currently fundraising for 2026. Last undie making workshop of the year was so fun! Selena and I are so proud of all the participants, some of whom had never even sewn before. It’s so touching to see queer and trans people learning a new skill that directly affects their everyday comfort 🥹.

Though we won’t hold more workshops until we can secure more grant funding, we do have monthly Open Sewing Studio sessions planned Sat Nov 8, Sun Dec 7, and Sat Jan 10. Join us for a sliding scale $10 - 30. Details and registration in our bio and website.

This workshop and the others we put on this year were a collaboration between Mel Martinez of Aqua Underwear, Selena Pham of Burning Sissy Valley, Talia Parkinson, and Project Rainbow.

We’re so grateful to receive grant funding to make these workshops affordable and accessible for LGBTQIA+ community!

Some stills of our first Undie Making Workshop of 2025 last weekend🧵🪡

This is the second year we’ve been able to teach these sliding scale, gender and size inclusive, sewing workshops. Thanks to a variety of grant funding and partnerships with local orgs like Project Rainbow and Burning Sissy Valley (BSV).

These 6-8 hour workshops are a bit of a crash course, where participants of all skill levels, even those who’ve never sewn before, make their own underwear from start to finish.

Big shoutout to Selena Pham of BSV, my wonderful assistant instructor, and comic relief —still waiting for their sewing stand up set 👀.

Our last workshop of the year —Boxer Brief Making, is Saturday October 11. It’s at capacity, but the waitlist is open! Often a spot or two opens up, so could still be worth filling out the application.

DEADLINES
We don’t have a hard application deadline, but the sooner you apply the better. We’ll start sending acceptance emails on a rolling basis as early as Friday 8/29 for the Boxer Brief 1 workshop; Friday 9/5 for the Brief workshop; and Friday 9/12 for the Boxer Brief 2 workshop.

These workshops are a collaboration between Mel Martinez of Aqua Underwear, Selena Pham of Burning Sissy Valley, a new co-teacher Talia Parkinson for the brief workshop, and Project Rainbow.
